Most of us see the the Big 12 opener as a precarious situation with the injury concerns.
Obviously, being at full strength would suggest a more promising outcome.
An early opportunity in FH era to see what happens in a game when few expect a win and would completely understand a loss.
I suppose the Iowa & UVa games fit that description, too, but that was more because we couldn't gauge the ability of this team and it involved road games. This one seems to involve a stronger (but certainly beatable) opponent, also on the road, and then adds additional factors — it's not just a depth issue, it's mainly how the absence of specific players (or their inability to perform at typical level) reduces chances from "possible" to "unlikely."
In a season like this, ISU won't win a game of that sort very often, but that's one of the developments that can show a coach's promise — can you manufacture a win from time to time when there's no business doing so?
The result of this game alone won't prove anything either way, but trends are built game-by-game.
I'm prepared for a loss, but I'm curious what the Cyclones can accomplish, given the uncertainty.
