Re: Recruiting against the Hawkeyes top Iowa Players
Woodbury could be 7-3 by the time he is done with college.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Build it and they will come and that's what Freddie is doing. I would agree with you on that, Hoiberg is the real deal.

Re: Recruiting against the Hawkeyes top Iowa Players
Honestly I think other than Paige everyone else in the 2012 class is a fall back type player.
Woodbury, size but not athletic enough for the system
Gesell, scrappy gym rat type that's a lights out shooter but undersized to play the 2
Staten, kind of a head case
Hopefully Jok becomes the guy that opens the gates when it comes to bringing in the top Iowa kids.

Why do people even bother to go to the Iowa sites? That's what I can't figure out.

This staff knows what they need to do they need to recruit the best players that fit this system and with the success that will generate then they can start competing for the top kids in the country. They are disciplined enough to not go get a player that doesn't fit just because he has an Iowa zip code.

Re: Recruiting against the Hawkeyes top Iowa Players
ISU and Iowa have a lot of work to do before either of us can count on getting the states top talent. From what i have heard, both Fred and Iowa's McCaffrey are doing a great job of getting in touch w/ HS coaches and AAU coaches and are both building strong relationships. I view that as a good thing. As much as i'm not an Iowa fan, i'd rather have a top talent in the state choosing b/ween us and Iowa rather than losing them to a Kansas or carolina. Just my opinion.

Just don't go over there. We all know how warped their brains are.

My point is, we don't know why coaches choose to focus on some and not others. It doesn't do any good to stew about it. If in 5 years, Iowa is getting the cream of the Iowa crop for recruits, and kicking our *** all over the court, then we have a problem, but until then, let's wait and see what this staff can do.

Re: Recruiting against the Hawkeyes top Iowa Players
I don't care one bit about recruiting Iowa players in MBB. It's not football. If you look at our two best teams of the last 20 years (the Willoughby-Pratt team under TF and the Fizer-Tinsley team under LE) we had basically zero Iowa kids on either roster. Klay Edwards is the only one I can even think of.
As far as future recruits, Paige was the loss. The other guys can go to iowa and Creighton. I'd be happy with Gessell, but it just seems like ISU has bigger fish to fry...or at least ones that fit into our system better.

Re: Recruiting against the Hawkeyes top Iowa Players
I actually have seen Woodbury play and this is my insight.
Sure 7 foot 1 sounds like a prize, and the numbers he's putting up are stellar. But how many 7'1 kids is he facing? none-if-any. He wouldnt fit into our style is my main thing, he's pretty slow and looks unathletic. But against high school competition he can make his way down the court and camp out in the lain all night.

I love your coach and think he will do very well but I also love FM and think he will turn Iowa around. If both programs are back up to where they once were, I do not think either team will have the "pick of the litter" in the state.

Re: Recruiting against the Hawkeyes top Iowa Players
I really want Staten. I think he has changed some of his immature ways and he is a great scoring guard. Sounds like he was cheering for us last night too which is a good sign.

Re: Recruiting against the Hawkeyes top Iowa Players
If Iowa keeps it up, and it doesn't look like things are going to change in IC any time soon, we will never have to worry about losing an in-state recruit to those fools. Unless of course, the state's top player doesn't like playing in front of a crowd. Or if he likes to study when resting on the bench.
