Ok this is getting embarrassing. I do believe the 5 for 5 free throw shooters are a combined 1-23 from the free throw line so far this year. (Not going to count the two made from five feet last night)
This really shows the sad state of Physical Education in this country.:jimlad:

I would think that they target people that look like they can't shoot. If they happen to pick someone that can shoot 70%, then there is almost a 17% chance they win the car. 80% is almost 1/3 chance.
It's been better than the first year the promotion returned. That year, I think the median age was around 76. One person made more than one shot all season long.
The first guy, and I felt terrible for him, had an obvious disability where he couldn't bend at least one knee. He could barely even get around the court. It pretty much was a cast of infirmed participants that first season.
I was at a game when I was younger that Fred Hoiberg was at. They litterally called Freds seat number. Don't know if it was planned or not. I don't think it was because he had a shocked look on his face. He was probably in his 4th year of the NBA. He made 4 out of 5 and donated it to charity. I think he missed the 5th one on purpous so he did not get the car from Benson Motors.
I wonder what the % for the general population would be. I bet well below 50%.
At least they picked an Iowa State fan. The seat they called last night had a KU fan in it, but they instead to the ISU fan next to her.
I heard that when KSU come to town they are going to let a Wildcat player shoot the 5 for 5. They are shooting LESS than 60% as a team UGGH on the season! That is embarrasing!!!
My seat was chosen and I shot the 5 free throws last week against Northern Illinois. I was pretty confident that I had a chance to win the car since I still play basketball frequently and shoot free throws as a cool down, a few times each week. In my mind, I had already won the car, sold it, and paid off student loans.
And then when I get out onto the court, nerves definitely got to me and I was worried about embarrassing myself. So what do I do? Go 0-5. Felt like I was just throwing it up there instead of actually shooting the ball. It will probably haunt me forever. And deservedly so, everyone I have ever met has let me know about it!
I got selected to shoot once while I was in college. It wasn't the 5 for 5 but the progressive jackpot by the construction company. If you made it - you won $50, if you missed the next person had a chance at $100 and so on.
Anyway, it is extremely difficult to shoot in front of 10,000+ people when you aren't used to shooting in anything other than your backyard or at the rec. The sight lines behind the hoop play tricks on your mind. I swore the basket looked 3 feet closer to me than it should have been. I pretty much relied on muscle memory and made my shot, but I understand how people have trouble with it.
Another interesting thing I noticed while I was standing there, the students in the lower bowl weren't in my sight line. I'm 6'2" so it could be different for actual bball players, but my sight line as I was looking at the rim was the very top of the lower bowl and the walkway.

From all of us that have ever been a sound board op let us control the sound you just talk like you normally would, you can do the same inflection and rising voice without yelling.
