Free Throw Shooting!
At the beginning of the year I wasn't too happy with our shooting from the line. (Example: Iowa Game 7-14) Lately though I have noticed great improvements from the line. From what I remember we haven't missed any in our last 2 games. Granted we haven't shot that many but still I have been pretty happy with our FT shooting as of late.

I feel the same way. I was kind of surprised at how bad we were earlier in the season, but now it looks as though they have been great all season long. I look at free throws like PAT's in football, in that they will win or lose you all of your close games. Hopefully, from now on making free throws will be a consistant part of our game.

I've always kind of been intrigued by how people "coach" free throws. Growing up the only coaching I ever really got was to set a routine and do the same thing every time. Clearly, Fred has done some coaching to get the guys comfortable and confident at the line.

I realized that during last game. We made 16 straight until Godfrey missed 1 late against Baylor.

It also helps to not have Dendy on the team.

If you want an example of drastic (and effective) coaching on free throws you have to go no further than what BF and staff did with Poppens when she came in. They totally and drastically changed her free throw shot and it has yielded great dividends.

Re: Free Throw Shooting!
Having both Hoiberg and Petey on the bench can't hurt when trying to help our FT shooting. I agree that FT shooting can win or lose close games for you, and we aren't going to dominate too many people in conference, so we need to get it done at the line.

Re: Free Throw Shooting!
The problem is that we don't get to shoot them too often. I believe we are last in the Big XII in free throw attempts per game. Love to see us get to the line more often.

I just wish we could get more FT attempts. I don't think our offensive style lends itself to lots of trips to the line, though.

I think the overall key to offense for this team is getting the ball into the lane (usually on a drive). If we could do that a little bit more consistently, we'd get more FT attempts and we'd get more open 3's.

Shooting 3's does not yield a lot of free throw attempts. However driving to the basket should. Running the fast break should, especially when you push it with even numbers. Guys back pedaling have a really hard time establishing defensive position and should get a lot of block calls and reach in calls.
