From Michigan
Been at MSU 16 years
Passed up chance to coach in NBA (Cleavland last year)
Where pray tell do you think he is going to go???
Here is track record at MSU: Four-Time National Coach of the Year
* One NCAA, Six Big Ten & Two Big Ten Tournament Championships
* 6 Final Four Appearances
* 13 Straight NCAA Tournaments
* 12 NBA Draft Picks, Including Six First Rounders
* Six All-Americans
* Graduates 84% of Players that Complete Eligibility
* MSU's all-time winningest coach
I don't think they will run him out of town for one bad season.

Look at it this way. I dont give a **** were the program is in 20 years. I am tired of getting our *** kicked. I want to win NOW. I am tierd of building for the future. We have been building for 10 years now and where has that got us? The best way to build for the future is to win now. Sure there have been bright days now and then and coaches saying we are close, yet we never get there. I want a coach that will go out there and just win and not talk about where we are at. I hope Fred is that guy, but you never know. There is no reason Izzo wont coach another 15 years anyway.

What's next: Coach K vs. Hoiberg?

The idea of Hoiberg building success for a long, time is more personally appealing (provided it doesn't take another five years to make the tournament in the meantime).
If it's a shorter-term hypothetical that ignores salary considerations to get the program rolling, I'd take Izzo. Even saying that, if you're going "that way," you have to do it as the successor to GM instead of the risk/reward Hoiberg choice.
I hope Hoiberg succeeds with flying colors. If that plan stalls, ISU needs to seriously rethink the approach.

Re: Izzo vs. Hoiberg
The question at this point, as I took it, is not over who the better coach is, or who will win us more games this year. It's about who is better for our program. We've had so many defections from players and coaches, that as much as anything most of us are just happy to have stability. This is a destination job for Hoiberg and Rhoades, and that's a refreshing change after their predecessors. Hoiberg had a greater opportunity, career-wise, and with less risk to his ISU legacy, had he stayed in the NBA front office, but he WANTS to coach here. It's nice to be wanted.
Izzo, by all appearances, wants to coach at MSU. He would never really belong here. I think he's a great fit for MSU and a great coach, and I can't imagine him coaching anywhere else. If Hoiberg gets this turned around he's not going to leave, he's going to solidify the dynasty. If it all happens the way we hope it happens, maybe we can make a legitimate argument based on records and titles with some of the Izzo's of the world, but no sane person is going to make an argument based on career accomplishments right now.

Re: Izzo vs. Hoiberg
the way i look at it is, Izzo is a legendary coach if we can learn anything from him or pick up any of his recruits there is no way we can pass it down

Re: Izzo vs. Hoiberg
Just because Izzo is a fantastic coach at Michigan State doesn't mean it just translates here.
He is the perfect fit for MSU. He would win here, but it wouldn't likely be the same. He's just built to be at Michigan State. Hand and glove situation.
I think Fred fits that mold here. We probably won't be quite the program that MSU is, but how many programs ever actually do that? But we can be a real steady winner that takes some runs in the tournament, which is what most of us want.
Now if Fred wants to establish a dynasty that beats what Izzo has done (which is the extreme Kool-Aid version of possibility, but fun to consider), then I sure won't complain. -

Re: Izzo vs. Hoiberg
I've never seen a "Coach K Ball" video, but I've seen a "Hoiball" video. I think the results speak for themselves.
