Is there a stat the covers "most times not coming up clutch at end of games?" If so, I'm sure DG would be the all time leader in most times not coming up clutch at end of games in ISU history, Big 12 history, and top ten in NCAA history. He is our best player so he gets the shots in crucial moments in games.....the problem is our best player just isn't that good and never clutch.

DG has excelled under CFH's system while he struggled badly under McDoormat's system. DG seems to play much better when he can get up and down the floor in transition which opens things up rather then playing the slow it down half court game. As you can see sometimes at the end of games when we have the lead we try to spread teams out and DG struggles at times because that style of play doesn't suit his game. I wish we would just forget the slowdown game and keep running and gunning. I think it would make a big difference.

Jacy's scoring average for his senior season: 5.5 @ 38% (FG%)
Diante's scoring average for his senior season: 17.9 @ 41.8% (FG%)
If Diante didn't score 18 pts per game this season, we would be like 5-20.
Do you really want to go with Jacy over DG? I would go with DG anyday. DG has stuck around with us for 4 long years, why don't we show little more support for DG?

Jacy Halloway over DG???? Jacy was terrible on a good team. DG is good on a terrible team.
DG is a better shooter, taller, more athletic, better dribbler, better at getting to the lane. There really is not one thing that Jacy is better at

Re: DG - Career Turnovers Leader
First off, Garrett doesn't run any sort of fast paced offense, so of course his minutes compared to turnovers are going to look good. He's a fool.
Second, if anyone on here wants another year of DG letting games run down his leg, then they obviously don't understand the team that we have coming in next year. The SCOUT team that we have is murdering our starting five EVERY day in practice.
The only out I will EVER give to Garrett is that he has to play with the only 6'11" player in the NCAA that refuses to go inside the 3 point line when on offense. VanderBeeken is the only fool that can take more blame than DG in this offense. If Garrett would pass the ball more often off his dribble drives to players like Christopherson or Ejim or Anderson, not only would he have Tinsley like assist totals, but he'd also have Tinsley like Win totals. Not to mention, being up 6 with 3 minutes left, it's common practice for Garrett to dribble up the floor and then fire off a three for no apparrent reason without looking anywhere but at the rim on his way down the court. He is a cancer and the team without him and VB will be an easy top 15 force all year next year.
BTW, here are a list of players from some of the teams that were full of terrible players during DG's storied tenure...
10-11
Melvin Ejim
Scott Christopherson
Darion "Jake" Anderson
Must be really hard finding any of these 3 guys who are normally on the floor.
09-10
Craig Brackins
Marquis Gilstrap
LaRon Dendy
Not an athlete in the bunch here.
08-09
Brackins
Lucca Staiger
Bryan Peterson
Hmmm... With Peterson playing so much point, I guess this also adds to reason that DG shouldn't have as many TOs as he does.
These are his years as a main starter so you can draw your conclusions about the other year. Just saying that, "he has nobody around him," is a bold statement. I'm not sure why he gets as much love as he does, but it's not as though he's had nobody to play with and he's the only man on the floor that can do anything. Maybe it's just that nobody is too fond of playing with him.

How about good decision making and getting players with better looks the ball in crucial moments of the game instead of just heaving up a forced shot.

With Diante at the helm... all is not well. Great players make the players around them better, and that is the one thing that your Lord and Savior, DG, has failed to do in his 4 years in Ames. He lacks the ability to create anything for anyone but himself. That is the common denominator that is missing between him and players like Tinsley, Stinson, Blalock, and Holloway. I'd rather have Alison Lacey, and her superior fundamentals, than DG commanding my team.

Quick, who is the best guard that DG has played with? Christopherson? Petersen? Haluska? Boozer?
You don't have a good perception of him because he's played on some pretty poor teams, I get that. Doesn't mean he's a terrible player and it doesn't mean he has no shortcomings. But why he is so maligned I will never know.

The reasons he is so maligned are as follows: Dec. 1st UNI game After the game is tied with 1:18 Garrett turns the ball over travelling in the lane, then misses three 3 pointers. Dec. 4th Cal game Game is tied with :47, Cal goes up three and Diante Garrett turns over the ball, killing ANY chance of staying in the game. Jan. 8th Neb Game Game tied, ISU ball, :08 left, Garrett tries to split 3 or 4 defenders to take the final shot and gets the ball stripped, Nebraska runs down the floor and gets a foul and wins on a free throw, when they should never have even touched the ball again unless it was with .5 seconds left or in OT. Jan. 19th OSU Game Up 3 with 30 seconds left, gives up a game tying three that should not have been able to gotten off with a clean look. Then on the other end, turns the ball over in the lane with seconds left... again. Jan. 29th OU Game Up 3 with 44 seconds left, Garrett takes it upon himself to take yet another final minute shot, and yet again, he fails to puut the nail in the coffin, OU goes down and DGs guy hits a 3 to tie the game... sounds kind of familiar. Then DG causes state to turn the ball over without even getting a shot off in the final :35 of regulation to push the game into OT. Then in OT with the game in the balance, DG turns the ball over and forces ISU into the foul and pray for misses. Feb. 5th KSU Game Up 4 with :52 Gives up a 3 pointer to his man AGAIN, then goes down the other side and misses his shot in the final seconds AGAIN, then when KSU takes the ball to the other side of the court down 1, Garrett AGAIN gets schooled on how to play the sport of basketball and gives up the game winning shot, along with breaking both of his ankles in the process.
That's SIX losses that are resting on the decision making of Garrett this season alone. That's the difference between 20-4 and 14-10. Also, Garrett slamming up TEN three point attempts in the Kansas game bothers me just a little bit. It seems like there could have been some better shot selections going on in a game like this than just tossing up blind 3s.
You just can't do these things over and over, and cost your team the game, and then be loved by the fans. That's not how it works. Not unless your fans have just become accustomed to losing, which by the looks of this thread, a lot of us apparently have.

Easy fix to the Diante problem. Tied or with a lead and under 2:00 remaining. Bench the anti-clutch and give some other people a chance to prove their worth, cause Garrett is just proving that he only has what it takes to make his own stat line look good, and many times, at the expense of the final score.

Not unless your fans have just become accustomed to losing, which by the looks of this thread, a lot of us apparently have. I shutter at the thought of taking the time to respond to this when I doubt I'll change your mind, but I'll make a half-assed attempt anyway. For the record, it's not that I'm DG's best friend and just blindly supporting him, I just happen to believe that he takes more crap than he deserves.
First things first, in any of those games did Garrett do anything to keep the team in the game in the first place? Or is he only a bad player in the final minutes? Is he the only one on the court for those minutes?
UNI- That was a while ago and my memory is foggy, all I've got is that he did hoist a bunch of 3's at the end. Of course, that was likely the quickest option to get a shot off.
Cal- Remember when after the scenario you speak of that Christopherson hit 2 3's to tie it up? So, they did still have a chance to win?
Neb- I can understand the frustration on the final play. Jeter made a good defensive play helping out.
OSU- Did JVB basically run out of bounds on the sideline with the ball? Did Ejim turn it over at half court and then commit a silly foul? Also, I'm pretty sure it was Ejim that didn't hedge on that Paige 3 you speak of...but I could be wrong. In OT, did Anderson not have a key turnover?
OU- I don't remember Garrett being the one guarding Pledger, but I could be wrong.
Like I said, when Garrett is playing all 5 spots I'll put all of this on him. When the coaches keep putting the ball in his hands in these situations what does that tell you? Think about that one. Is Hoiberg dumb? Lutz pretty stupid? Maybe you're just John Wooden reincarnated? We're limited by options, just a fact of life.
Sorry to hear that DG doesn't play the entire game and then just comes in for the final two minutes to ruin it all.

The funny thing is you mention Dendy earlier as some great option...what's his reputation at the end of games again?
