"Lucious has already visited Iowa State, which appears likely to be his final destination.:
Ok then.

Interesting development. I'll put some trust in the staff to have something figured out schollywise if we are going to take him.

without having any competition for him I wonder if Fred will ask him to pay his own way next year?

Re: Wisc. paper: Marquette not interested in Lucious
Am I the only one who thinks it's odd we're the only school interested in Lucious?
Many will disagree, but it appears to me that Fred is taking a "win at all costs" approach to recruiting. Not saying that's a bad thing if the kids turn their off-the-court troubles around and help us win, but as I've said before, I never thought Fred was the type of person to recruit this way.
Then again, he's been in and around the NBA long enough to know what it takes to win, and clearly he doesn't see us doing that with how we've done things in the past.
We'll see.

We'll see. I think Fred understands that ISU is in a position where they have to take some chances to get things turned around. It is a high-risk/high-reward game for most, but I think Fred's automatic credibility from being in the NBA helps him manage egos probably better than most head coaches his age. And I think that helps negate some of the risk that would be inherent in some other programs taking these transfers. I believe if Fred gets us to a position where we are contending for conference titles again you will see his recruiting style change to a more long-term approach.

Re: Wisc. paper: Marquette not interested in Lucious
i think our recruiting efforts have to take into account our horrible class balance - when you inherit a team with 3 returning players, 2 of whom are seniors, what are you going to do?
transfers are the only way to get some upperclassmen on the roster in a short period of time.
in the future we'll probably go with 2-3 freshman + a juco and get back to "normal," whatever normal is.

We'll see. Despite Fred's shinny image, let us not forget that he has said he considers Tim Floyd a mentor on would lean on him for advice. Timmy certainly was not adverse to taking chances on questionable recruits/transfers. He would also not let silly things like scholarship limits get in his way.
Personally, I like how this is playing out.

Personally, I like how this is playing out. That and Fred's shown he's not hesitant to suspend anyone regardless of their importance to the team. Players coming in probably have a good idea that if they do screw up, they're done.
