So, as long as the offensive player barrels into the lane and falls down, hitting other players along the way, its a defensive foul?

If the defensive player has defensive positon and maintains it, then its an offensive foul. If the defensive player does not have position, or moves towards the offensive player when contact occurs, it is a defensive foul.
