Release: Garrett, Christopherson Earn All-Big 12 Honors
IRVING, Texas- A pair of Iowa State men's basketball players were honored today by the Big 12 Conference in its annual postseason awards. Senior guard Diante Garrett was named All-Big 12 Second Team and junior guard Scott Christopherson earned honorable mention honors.
Garrett emerged as one of the best point guards in the Big 12 this season, leading the conference in assists at 6.1 apg. He will likely become the first Cyclone to top the Big 12 in assists since Jacy Holloway did it in the 1996-97 season. The Milwaukee, Wis., native is the Cyclone leader in scoring (17.2 ppg), assists (6.1 apg) and steals (1.7 spg), ranking in the top-100 nationally in all three categories, the only player in a power conference to achieve the feat.
Garrett is Iowa State's all-time leader in games played (127) and he ranks second all-time in career assists at Iowa State with 605. Garrett, who recorded the fourth-best single-season assist total in school history with 189 dimes this year, is one of only three players in Big 12 history to amass 1,300 points and 600 assists in a career.
Christopherson proved to be one of the best shooters in the Big 12 in his junior campaign, ranking 12th nationally in 3-point percentage at 45.2 percent. The LaCrosse, Wis., native averaged 13.9 points and connected on 84 3-pointers this season, ranking second in the Big 12 in 3-pointers per game at 2.8. His 84 3-pointers is the fifth-best single-season total in Cyclone history.
Iowa State's school-record holder for consecutive games with a made 3-pointer at 33, Christopherson is Iowa State's all-time leader in career 3-point percentage (44.3 percent; 129-291 3FG). -

Had Iowa State won some of those earlier, close games he would have been 1st Team. Even without the wins he should be in my opinion.

Who voted Dunn on the first team? That's a joke.

He only average 0.4 PPG more than Garrett, makes a few more 3-pointers but has a worse 3-pt %, is a better free throw shooter; however the biggest thing in my opinion is that he is not even top 15 in either Assists, Steals or Assist-to-Turnover ration this year. http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...ml#post2167522 (2011 Men's BB Awards.) -

Garrett had a great year, but you usually aren't going to get guys on the first team when you're in last place. It's just that simple. It's not right, but that's how it usually works.

Plus, if you're all-time leading scorer and your team was ranked in the top 15 in preseason but finished 18-12/7-9, and your stats aren't significantly better than another viable candidate — it's arguable that Garrett should get the nod over Dunn.

I wasn't really even talking about DG taking his place on the team. They have 4 guards on the first team and I thought both Morris brothers deserved to be on it.

Re: Release: Garrett, Christopherson Earn All-Big 12 Honors
DG got pooped on by the voters. Should be first team. 10th in the nation in assists and first in the Big 12 isn't enough to get you first team idk what is. Good ppg too.

I realize it is a yearly award, but he has had a fine career.

And just to throw another plus on top of this deliberation, Dunn wasn't exactly the best role-model off the court... I know it doesn't have a lot or any weight when considering honors, but just another thing Garrett has going for him.
