Of course he is a shooter, but he can move. What I'm saying is he isn't like Lucca or Jake S. who were best sitting around the arc. Honestly, next year I hope he can just spot up and shoot, but he has range beyond that.

    Re: Scotty

If he did not have the mono problem last year, Scotty would have taken Lucca's spot and we wouldn't have missed a beat offensively, had better chemistry, and been much better defensively.

Scotty will make a great 6th man, will benefit greatly from the inside presense of White, Booker, and an improve Godfrey and Ejim. He is a selfless player who is always looking for the open man, moves without the ball, and is not afraid to take a big shot.'

    My 2 cents.

    Re: Scotty

JVB and Scottie both had tough games today.
I think Scottie had 2 early threes and other than that couldn't get much going.
JVB's play kind of aggravated me today. Burks had 15 boards today and Robinson? had 14. Jamie had 5. There were so many of those drives to the basket that Colorado had today that Jamie could have boarded if he a) didn't leave his feet to go for the block or b) jumped.
All in all I'd say I'm satisfied with the season but just disappointed it had to end.

    Re: Scotty

It's pretty simple, Scotty is a good player who probably shouldn't be playing 40 minutes a game. He's a shooter and shooters need their legs. He also has to work hard on defense, so he also needs more rest.

We had 1 guard sub this year and that was a freshman walk-on. Can you imagine how great it would be if Scotty was getting 30 minutes a game? And if DG was maybe getting 34 minutes and if Jake was getting 30 minutes?

    Re: Scotty

Scotty needs to improve his finishes off the dribble drive or his minutes will be severly diminished next year.

Throughout the season, Scottie has gotten better at driving and either shooting a floater, finishing, or passing off to an active Godfrey (much easier to pass to a post player when they are playing inside rather than Jamie outside the arc). He has also made great improvement in his on-ball defense, and that will be even better when he isn't playing 35+ minutes a game

Dribbles and drives reasonably well(needs to finish better though), plays reasonably good defense. Defensively JVB and Ejim leave quite a bit to be desired and get burned way more than Scotty.

Shooting at nearly 45% beyond the arc is a premium. Outside of the last two games, Scott and catch, turn, and shoot as quick as anyone Iv'e seen - he has a lot of makes with a hand in his face. While he may not excel at any other area, he is not a serious liability anywhere. As with everyone not named Diante, he will benefit with a few less minutes per game.

Jake was much more effective off the dribble than Scott is. It wasn't necessarily pretty, but more effective.

Scotty more than anyone else was playing too many minutes. He broke down.

    Re: Scotty

Are we talking about the Scotty that got Honerable Mention all B12 this year? Or is this some other Scotty that didn't lead the nation in 3pt % at one time or didn't make a 3 in 33 straight games or won't be the only 3 year starting senior on the team next year?

The way I think about it is whether or not he starts next year at the 3 vs Babb.

I think McGee is going to play PG and Allen is locked in at SG.

Who would be better to start at the 3? Who would be a better 6th man? I think Scotty is starting quality, but he doesn't bring much to the spot as a 3 except shooting where Babb brings size, rebounding, great on ball defense and shoots it a little worse than Scotty. Babb is still a very, very good 3pt shooter.

    That is my dilemma.
Maybe Ejim comes off the bench and we start 3 guards again next year.

    Re: Scotty

He doesn't have a lot of skill dribbling, but he isn't Lucca where he dribbles it off of his foot or looks unathletic. I'll give you that.

I would say that Scotty does not play reasonably well on defense. Not for lack of effort, but for athletic ability. If his many takes him to the hole all he can really do is get out of the way. That is evidenced by the fact that he was top ten in the nation or something in least fouls per game.

I am also saying that his dribble drive moves have left a lot to be desired since conference play started.

Not saying he isn't a valuable piece to our team, but it is hard for me to see him starting over Babb next year.

Maybe Ejim comes off the bench and we start 3 guards again next year.
As the season has gone on I think that has become a more likely scenario. Right now it seems impossible to know what the lineup will look like.

Right now we don't know if we will go 3G 2F or 2G 3F. And if we do go 3 guards is our 4 going to be big or small? Ejim, Godfrey, or Babb? Is our 3 going to be closer to a SG or SF? Do we play Ejim, Babb, or Scotty there?
