You think our close losses were rough?

I think virginia took the cake today: lost with a 10 point lead with 42 seconds left in the game:

I can take losing when we were up 6 with 3 minutes remaining, but up by 10 with under a minute and losing is just brutal

The final score threw me off for a moment....for a second I thought they came from 10 back and somehow won by 7 in regulation.

Yeah, I would take one nasty loss like that instead of counting on Diante not to get a shot off in the final seconds before the buzzer several times over the season.

Agreed, it's not like DG was our best player this year or anything.

I am going to put it this way: Without DG, we are Iowa.........at best. We easily lose 20 games and all of our conference games.

To get back on topic:
I watched the end of that game on Espn3.com replay. That ending reminded me a little of the game at Oklahoma during Morgan's last year (I believe), where we gave up an 8 point lead extremely late in the game. I'm fairly indifferent toward Virginia - but that one was truly a heartbreaker - my heart goes out to that team and their fans.

The point wasn't that DG was the guy doing it. The point was that we lost several close games because we couldn't execute, and many times it came down to him with the ball in the final seconds. Excuse the lack of clarity.

I remember the OK game, I think we game up a 10 point lead in about 75 seconds. It was bad coaching, bad playing, and OK having every prayer answered.

That loss was the "microcosm" of that season.

If someone added up near-miss wins in that season, last season and this season — I'm guessing it adds up to something like 18, adjusting for similar narrow victories during that span.
