Diante Garrett invited to 2011 Portsmith Invite

I just spoke with Iowa State associate head coach T.J. Otzelberger who told me that Diante Garrett has been invited to participate in the 2011 Portsmith Invitational.

Basically, this is an event where guys can show off their talents in front of scouts, etc. Good for DG to be chosen for this. Something like 60 guys are invited each year.

No surprise. I thought Jake would have a shot at this but evidently not. It's basically for 2nd rounders to undrafted players. Can't wait to see how DG does. He should thrive in that type of setting.

Jake and Jamie still have a shot. From what I understand, they're waiting to hear back from the event. DG is in though.

There's a huge advantage in being a point guard at camps like these. Since there's an every man for himself type of atmosphere at these workouts you get some guys who shoot every chance they get and then you have some players, mostly posts, who get pretty much ignored. DG isn't going to have to let some other player dictate how much he gets the ball, which really will benefit him.

That site also list Darion Anderson from Northern Illinois.

I now read this on Cyclones.com:

Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg confirmed that seniors Jamie Vanderbeken and Darion "Jake" Anderson are on the alternate list for an invitation to Portsmouth.
