Big 10 in NCAA

I am surprised there isn't more fussing about the Big 10 getting 7 teams in. Colorado finished better than any of that mediocre bunch with the .500 conference record. Does having the AD at Ohio State as chairman of the selection committee have any thing to do with that? I just want to be on record when all four go down in the first round. Of course if they win I'll be eating a big helping of crow.

Penn St. and Ill don't deserve to make it. MSU doesn't really either but with their draws will probably make it to the sweet 16.

Illinois is a questionable draw, Michigan St is certainly a questionable draw (although probably let in because of their history), but Penn St earned it with their performance in the Big 10 Tournament. They beat two teams in the tournament (Wisconsin and Michigan St) and pushed Ohio St, the tournament's overall #1 seed, to the limit. There are a lot of teams I'll question whether they belong or not, but Penn St earned it.

RPI and SOS had everything to do with PSU, MSU, and Illinois, IMHO. I'm sure MSU's tourney history didn't hurt them either. PSU had the #6 SOS and MSU #8 as of Sunday when the Big 10 championship game was on. I could look it up, but am lazy, so will just assume Illinois' SOS was in the top 20. I do think that Colorado definitely should have received a bid, especially over the likes of UAB and VCU. When you beat a #4 tourney seed 3 times, and have several other quality wins (Texas for one) I don't see how you don't get in the tourney. The only thing Colorado had going against it was SOS and RPI. Their RPI was #67 and their SOS was #81 as of Sunday, which is why I feel SOS and RPI cannot be ignored. I think a team that goes 19-14 or whatever, but has a top 10 SOS should get in ALL DAY over a 22-10 team that has a 75 RPI. I am just throwing out numbers there, but I think you get the point. Otherwise you are basically rewarding teams for piling up wins against weak competition, so why should any team schedule a tough OOC?

You mean Gene Smith,former AD at Iowa State but now in the B10? I don't know...What do you think?!

How is going through UCLA and most likely Florida an easy thing to do for Mich. State?

They talked about this on sports radio all day today. I believe the rule is that conference commissioners cannot be in the room when they discuss teams in their conference but athletic directors can be. Hence, Dan Beebe had to leave the room when they discussed Big 12 teams (Colorado getting snubbed, Mizzou as an 11 and Texas as a 4---WTF) was proof of this. I believe the A.D. from Utah State is in his first year on the selection committee and probably got the short end when it came to his school. Overall, the committee completely botched this tournament with five-14 loss teams in the dance and 3 teams from the Colonial Athletic Association/Conference

Penn State made a strong run in their conference tourney, a huge plus in the eyes of the selection committee in regards to bubble teams. I didn't think Illinois deserved a bid, but I don't think Colorado deserved one either. So in my eyes, the committee gets some wrong, and gets most right.

Remember, Penn State only got to play Iowa and Indiana once.

I think 6 would have been fine for the big 10, either MSU or Illinois should have been left out.

Florida yes. UCLA?? The days of John Wooden are far in the past. That team and the Pac 10 as a whole are just not that impressive.

I don't have as much of a problem with the Big 10 teams as the number of SEC teams that got in.

Yes they are. But as long as we are bringing up history in regards to a game that doesn't rely on history, UCLA went to the final4 in 2006, 2007, 2008. Sure, they are not as good as the those teams, but the Bruins have steadily improved throughout the season, something that can't be said for Michigan State.

How many UCLA games did you watch this year?

Why? There is no reasonable way that anyone could say that VCU or UAB had a better resume than Colorado. It does not pass the sanity test. Colorado had six wins against Top 50 teams. In the UAB/Clemson matchup, the teams had one Top 50 win combined.

The Big 10 teams had better resumes as well. On a sidenote, the Big 12 was undefeated against the Big 10 this season.
