if he was in prison for 4 years, then he had all the rehabilitation and practice time that prison offers... (jimlaud)

To simplify this, if you had a roster to be comprised of 5 unproven freshman guards, would you turn away Derrick Rose?
A conventional transfer would be part of that 2012 recruiting class.

The horse is out of the barn. isn't iowa already recognized by the rest of the free world as "Convict U"? They were ranked 2nd on the recent SI article of programs with number of players arrested. I've heard their games are regularly broadcast on the prison channel and the hokey pokey is a favorite exercise out in the "yard"

A conventional transfer would be part of that 2012 recruiting class. Playing at Dayton doesn't necessarily make you better than any HS recruit. Much like CJ Bruton, Derrick Rose wouldn't be eligible.

My contention is that our guard numbers do not preclude or discourage us (your opinion) from taking guards that are better than those high school guys on the roster.
Also, most would take their chances with a freshman ranked 49th overall out of high school that made the A-10 all-rookie team.
Clearly you did not understand the Rose simplification: unproven numbers (high school freshman and JuCo's) do not stop you from taking more talented players.

On the other, as folks have pointed out, a lot of these kids are head cases, ME guys, bad operators or all three. ISU is a perfect fit, given the "class is optional" aspect of the big 12 conference, but most would not like McCaffrey telling them "no deals, you earn your minutes" "you have to be student as well as an athlete". What's up with Iowa fans and the word "class"? It's like the only word they know to describe people who aren't convicts.

Re: another transfer rumor?
FYI - I've looked into this and cannot find any evidence at all that indicates that Iowa State is interested in either of these two kids at all. I'm prepared to squash this rumor right now.
