Basketball Recruiting: Georges Niang visit update

Re: Basketball Recruiting: Georges Niang visit update
I'm glad his visit went well. This is the type of thing that CPR, Fred and all past ISU coaches have faced. Unfortunately we need to import so many of our athletes from places that think of Iowa as a baron waste land that is stuck in the 1950's.

If they come, we will build it. (the bball program's new slogan- a little twist on the field of dreams)

Re: Basketball Recruiting: Georges Niang visit update
This is probably a dumb question, but I dont know the answer, so I'll ask!
Do you know if they show the recruits around central campus? Or do they just show them Hilton/the dorms/practice facility?
I just realized I have no idea what the tour they get is like.

They see everything. Georges told me that he even met with the dean of the business school.

Still amazes me how people can be so unaware about the way of life in different parts of this country. There's nothing in Iowa (he was told)? Oh well, hope he has a good time.

I've lived in other parts of the country and the overwhelming majority of people on the East coast would not be able to name one city in Iowa, nor point it out on a map. I would say that at least half of them would believe you 100% if you told them that the Midwest still doesn't have cell phone technology.

Re: Basketball Recruiting: Georges Niang visit update
most kids on the east coast couldn't find iowa on a blank map.
most kids in iowa couldn't find MD, VT, NH, NJ, MA, or CT on a map either.

Probably true but schools negatively recruit against Iowa State because of this all of the time.

most kids in iowa couldn't find MD, VT, NH, NJ, MA, or CT on a map either. You're probably not wrong on this. However, there is a much bigger gap in what Iowa kids know of the East Coast versus what East Coast kids know/think about Iowa. Obviously both will have their biases, but I can pretty much guarantee you that their bias of us is much further from the reality than ours is of theirs. Much of that is due to media coverage, but also to the fact that there is a definite superiority complex with people from the coasts.
