It seems a bit risky to have all three staff members without head coaching experience. How could you not trust Fred though.

Re: Matt Abdelmassih a new assistant?
http://www.wmubroncos.com/ViewArticl...&ATCLID=120942 Mann’s work mentoring the perimeter players on defense helped WMU lead the MAC and rank 37th in the country in field goal percentage defense (.407) in 2007-08. The Broncos were also 84th in the country in scoring defense (65.0 ppg) after holding 11 opponents to 59 points or less.
Defensive minded coach, I really like this hire now!! -

He probably has hope of being a head coach someday and having more actual coaching expirence would be useful for that. This is correct.
People are not looking at the reality of the coaching world today. Assistants travel around all over to try to build resumes to get head coaching jobs.
TJ has proven that he can recruit at this level. He has a good reputation as a recruiter.
But in order for him to achieve his ultimate goal, which I would assume is to be a head coach at a D 1 school, he needs to expand his resume. We will see Fred give him more and more bench responsibities so he can fulfill his ambitions.

Lutz's replacement will be a guy with lots of coaching experience. He will replace Lutz.
BTW does anybody know what McRoy ever did other than being in DeMarcus Phillups? McRoy didn't bring in DP.

I like this hire, he has worked with Fred for 3 years and has NY recruiting connections.

Re: Matt Abdelmassih a new assistant?
Recruiting-wise, I like the move. Coaching (X and O)-wise, it worries me. They're going from a combined probably 50 years of coaching experience (head and assistant) in Lutz and McRoy to closer to 8 with the two new hires. FH better give a big raise to Rutter.
I would have liked to see someone like Boylen hired, but if you are going to promote Matt A., the second guy pretty much needs to be a minority.

From what I understand this is a good hire
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Re: Matt Abdelmassih a new assistant?
People are putting way too much emphasis on the need to have a good x and o's coach. College basketball, even in the elite level jobs, is filled with guys who are not good in game coaches. Getting guys that can recruit and bring in talent is much, much more important. And Brad Stevens is a good coach, but without future NBA players in Hayward and Mack his teams would look a lot like Lickliter's Iowa teams.

What's the problem. First Transfer U. Now Recruit U. We can play Morgan ball and still win with talent.

Re: Matt Abdelmassih a new assistant?
Recruiting we seem to be close to even to the last staff with Lutz and McRoy, maybe a little behind, but in terms of X&O's it looks like we are severely behind now with Matt and Mann.

Re: Matt Abdelmassih a new assistant?
We have to remember that there's no way that TJ will stick around forever. Maybe Fred would prefer to develop Matt as an assistant and give him some experience. That way he can become our ace recruiter when TJ takes a big job. If we have some success if the next couple of years, it won't take long for TJ to get some calls.
