Re: Cornell Mann hired, Abdelmassih promoted
Wasn't McDermott supposed to be a good Xs and Os coach?
As long as the guys play hard on defense, which is where Mann will help, I think Hoiberg is all we need to create plays on the offensive end.

I don't get the Scott Drew point.
It's no big secret there's a lot of frauds running around basketball coaching circles.
Why the coach in Iowa City thinks that except for Kemba Walker his team is as good as UConn. He's crazy, BTW.

Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd -

I agree Baylor has been better than us, (although that X's and O's guy who shall not be named was 3-1 against Drew) but that's not the point I was arguing. The point I was responding to was the one Rural made:
I'll give you the best X and O thing, right here.
(1)Recruit great players
(2)Tell them, "Go kick their ***".
It's not the best strategy. Baylor is clear evidence of that. Having talent is great, and absolutely necessary to be successful, but it does not win on its own. Good X's and O's are necessary as well.

Didn't Drew have his team in the Elite Eight just two years ago? I don't like Drew at all but he has been pretty successful.

Including his elite 8 run, he has 2 NCAA tournament appearances in 8 years,
is 40 games below .500 in conference, and finished in the top half of the league twice.

Maybe you could say talent and chemistry >> X's & O's
I do believe recruiting is by far the most important aspect. X's & O's are obviously important, unless they become suffocating. My highschool coach suffocated us and most of could care less about organized hoops after that. He "coached" the interest right out of us. We couldn't wait to get to the playground for pick-up games.
