Re: Cornell Mann arrested for OWI in Dayton, OH Tuesday

Yeah driving drunk isn't a good idea. That being said he had no intention to kill anyone, and he didn't kill anyone. Yeah this would be a different scenario if he had, but he didn't. Get over it.

How old is he now and this is his first one? Maybe, just maybe... one is enough to make him realize it was a mistake and to never do it again. People act like no one can learn from a mistake and hes damaged goods now and will keep doing this.

Exactly. I lost a very close friend to a drunk driver. Guy that killed him drove drunk every other night and no one thought it was a big deal because that's how he always got home. Except for that one night when my friend crossed paths with him.

I get sick when I see people on here saying driving at .16 is no big deal. I'll let you go tell my buddies folks that.

It does directly relate to his job function. You usually lose your license after a DUI, how are you supposed to DRIVE and visit recruits. That's his job.

I agree. I mean how hard is it to call a cab? That is an easy choice that all grown and responsible men should be able to make. It's not like he just "had a couple of beers" either.
Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd

Because if he's guilty, he committed a serious crime as a highly paid, high profile employee just a few days after getting the job. Causes me to seriously question if he has the intelligence and maturity to work at my school.

Speaking of one thing leading to another...being fired is now the same as suggesting the death penalty.

How about texting on a phone while driving or talking on a phone while driving. These activities are equally distracting to drivers and some studies show that people that talk or text on a phone are just as dangerous as drunk drivers. So since we are playing the what if game, what if he had been talking or texting on a phone while driving and got in an accident? Would people still want him fired? And since these actions are just as bad as driving while drunk we might as well kick everyone off the team that has done these things.

Traffic light is a better one than the seatbelt I said earlier. If Fred runs a red light should we fire him? Even though he didn't, he could have killed someone doing that and running a red light is illegal.

We're talking about an assistant basketball coach not the high priest of popeville.

He made a mistake - give the guy a break.
I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all.

My favorite part is when people equate saying 'hold on a minute put down the torches and pitchforks' with 'not a big deal'. Its as big a deal as any other traffic offense of the same level. Running a stop light, distracted driving, excessive speeding, reckless driving, all are dangerous, but you dont see people getting their names plastered up in headlines, and people demanding they get fired. None of these are good things, but at the same time, you have to have an appropriate level of response, not just an emotional knee jerk reaction.

The problem is, over the last 25-30 years especially, thanks in large part to prohibitionist groups like MADD, we've taken it to where the automatic reaction is much, much more than is appropriate, with the level of danger of this crime vs other similarly dangerous offenses.

Are you comparing texting and driving to drunk driving? Seriously?

Same to the people comparing it to running a red light. Are you serious? OWI = running a red light? If people truly believe this, our society is totally ****ed.

Maybe you are drunk, but the difference between OWI and manslaughter is luck. The difference between murder and manslaughter is intent.
