Why would we offer him a scholarship and not accept it?
Because it was conditional on other things occurring (e.g. another schollie had to open up or they were waiting on another kid's decision for the last schollie). It happens at times for both basketball and football, especially football so it's not "typical rhetoric".
In this case, Henton's position certainly was not a position of need. he is not considered an elite recruit and there is only one schollie available for next season. As a result, CW is very likely correct with his statement regarding Henton.

Cool. Then it's clear that we'll be signing somebody better this spring.

They may not sign anybody else this spring. It's possible Henton could have waited for Gibson and Ashaolu to make their decisions and then be signed. Maybe he didn't want to wait (and he wanted immediate PT) so he signed with PC now.
I have not seen any info anywhere else that ISU is a finalist for Gibson or that Gibson is visiting ISU. I guess Ashaolu is still in play for ISU and the deal with him is that he won't burn a schollie that can be used for a 2012 recruit (who is better than Henton).
Haha...you might want to reserve those fightin' words for a time when you have actual knowledge of the situation.
I call it as I see it. I may be wrong but when I hear the "we didn't want him that bad" line after his decision I'll choose to be skeptical when lacking any evidence to the contrary.
If you have different evidence then I understand your differing opinion. I'm going on what I have.
And yes, I am cfh so what I have is pretty good stuff. :)

There was skepticism about Henton and ISU prior to his decison. Outside of the Cornell Mann connection, Henton did not make alot of sense for ISU.
