Re: Should we start going after Woodbury again?
I think we should... but don't think we would get him
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -

I think that Woodbury could grow into a very effective D1 player, and he certainly would provide a significant presence in the paint, but he would not be an asset on the other 90 feet of the court. Marcus Paige and Mike Gesell make Woodbury look much better on the travel team circuit that what he did/will at SC East. That said, Woodbury is a legit high-major prospect and his stock could continue to rise.

Re: Should we start going after Woodbury again?
I don't think that ISU wants him or needs him.

Re: Should we start going after Woodbury again?
If Woodbury called up Fred and said he wanted to be a Cyclone he would be a Cyclone.

Hard to believe that he would turn him down.
If he fits in for UNC or Kansas, we can probably find him a home here if he wants one.

Tall skinny kids are high risk/high reward. Some can be good...others can be complete stiffs.

Originally Posted by CyBroncos Tall skinny kids are high risk/high reward. Some can be good...others can be complete stiffs. The times I watched him, I didn't think he was that skinny at all. I was actually impressed by how "filled out" he was for only being a junior and 7-feet tall. I've seen him listed anywhere from 225 to 230 pounds, and I believe it. Tyler Zeller, UNC, only weighed 215 his senior year of high school and now weighs 250. That doesn't mean Woodbury will bulk up that much, but I could see him adding another 10-15 pounds before playing in college.
And to those saying Fred wouldn't be interested in Woodbury if he expressed interest in coming to Iowa State, you're way off. Since when are we too good for talented big men, particularly those with growing interest from schools like UNC and Kansas?

Fred has gone and see Woodbury play. He has not recruited him since and has not offered him despite Woodbury being a 7 ft kid from Iowa. It tells you everything you need to know.
Mike Gessell is a top 100 player from IA/NE as well and Fred has not offered him and is not recruiting him either.

There's a really downtrodden outfit in this area that views those two guys as saviors.

He was front page on the rivals BB recruiting for a while, and they say he has the offer and lists Fred as the recruiter. Mike Gesell - Yahoo! Sports
