    Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg

I believe I set a record for using the phrase "Fred Never Fails" at the point of his hiring.

When it was hypothetical, I wasn't sure. When it sounded real, I started to think hard about his track record, and realized that Fred Never Fails.

His recruiting is far more impressive right away than I expected. I thought he could be good, but he's better than I was wildly dreaming.

    Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg

I've been impressed with all of Pollard's hires. Some haven't worked out, but they were all excellent hires. FH hire was the most risky, but in my opinion has by far the most upside.

It is looking like Pollard has done a pretty good job with hires. If Hoiberg does what I think he'll do, Pollard would have hit it out of the park with his hires.

Chizik has shown he is a good coach and despite his rough start here, it's safe to say that was a good hire at the time.

CPR.....not really much needs to be said. He likely won't set the B12 on fire, but that has much more to do with ISU than his coaching ability.

Fred...remains to be seen, but off to as good of a start as any coach in the country could have gotten us.

GMac....this was probably the worst hire, but at the time, I liked it. I can't say I would have made a different decision. If GMac does well at CU, then we might just have to say it was a bad fit, but he's a good coach.

I know that Jamie is right for ISU. He won't hit homers every time but he is getting ISU more money and more pub and more facilities.

Hiring Fred is just one example.

I am concerned with the departure of Geoffrey though. He's a huge supporter. He has been the cornerstone of the Athletic Department.

    Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg

I was skeptical, but I'm that way with everything. My first thought was "here we go again, more high hopes losing". What actually sold me on on CFH was the development of Garrett during the year, & how GD hard the team played defense. It wasn't always good defense but it wasn't from lack of effort. Me and a buddy said as the year went on it looked like Johnny's o and Floyds D, that's combination I can live with. Also, keeping the transfers noses clean during the last year has been nothing short of a miracle. Now I'm on board 100% with Freddie ball. The moment he got Royce over Kentucky also told me he can recruit with the big boys.

    Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg

I wasn't so sure about hiring Fred at first either... but at that same time, I was so happy that we didn't have to watch McD screw it up over and over again, that I was on-board for anything that could breathe new life into the program. It has worked out very well and Fred has already exceeded my expectations. I'm finally excited for the future of the Cyclone basketball again.

Pollard had some misses with McD and Chez**** but they did seem like good hires at the time. As someone else said, sometimes it's just not a good fit. All-in-all, I think Pollard is a great AD. He's done a lot with a small budget.

As to the point about how supportive Geoffrey has been... I'm also very concerned. He has been a wonderful President for the school and for the athletic department. He will be missed for sure. We need to find a strong replacement to keep some of the momentum we're building both academically and athletically.

ISU can rise to the top of the Big 12 and be #1 with strong academics.

ISU can rise to the top of the Big 12 in several women's sports; golf, gymnastics, volleyball, basketball.

ISU can rise to the top of the Big 12 in men's basketball.

ISU can strive for the top of the Big 12 in football. That will be one tough task.

All put together, winners in the classroom, winners on the field, winners on the court and winners at the box office.

    .

No matter what ISU does, or will do---the Iowa Hawkeyes will ALWAYS do it better.

This includes their myopic take on Mad Fran, who is really building with 'high school' talent when he covets a 4-time FELON who spent four YEARS in a federal pen for ARMED ROBBERY

Iowa MBB delusions are just that. Their fans are completely THREATENED by Fred Hoiberg. They will NEVER admit it.

Fred just took TWO coveted Hawkeye recruits from Franny......a coach who has WHIFFED several times this Spring already

They can stick it up their HAWKEYE for all I care. They're obnoxious

    Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg

I thought Fred was a great hire from the start. Pollard , for the most part has done an amazing job with his hires. GC will not get a lot of Christmas cards from ISU fans, but the guy won a national championship with a team that was not all that good the year before. I don't like what he did, but the man can coach. He also hired a guy that won a national championhip in wrestling. Of all the hires he has made, GMac was the worst, and I never, ever liked that hire. Not because of what he had done at UNI, but because I thought ISU could have gotten somebody better for the same money. The fact that he distroyed the MB program just made me like him less.

The thing to rememeber about both CFH and CPR hires, is both called or visited JP about coaching at ISU when Cdick and Gmac were hired. Timing is everything, they planted the seed and both appear to be excellent hires.

    Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg

The day Fred was announced as head coach the first thought of mine was "Thank God". I knew Fred and his family back in my college days and knew this was a great hire. What's amazing is the horrible position Mac put us in and how quickly Fred addressed the problems and in his second year has the entire fan base stoked for the upcoming season. Players want to play for him (unlike Mac), his style of play is enjoyable to watch (don't think I need to state the obvious about our former game plan), transfers coming in instead of bolting, far better respect from the media because Fred's respected among the basketball community. Hard not to be a part of what he's selling if you know him. Just can't wait to see what he can do with a full roster.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

    Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg

With the basketball program in shambles after GMac, just who were we going to get to even interview? The program was in much better shape after LE was canned and we couldn't even get any decent candidates except Morgan, who was already here. Like others have said, Fred is just one of those gifted individuals that's good at everything he does, and his hire was not only our only decent option, but a no brainer. In fact if he hadn't been hired, all the cyclone fans I know, including myself, would have been very pi$$ed.
