They called and expressed an interest. As Jamie said, he and I spoke three years ago in person for the first time. You don't get many jobs if you the one having to pick up the phone and do a lot of calling and doing a lot of campaigning. With that in mind, I waited and hoped that a conversation might take place. I was very fortunate that it did and when it did I was extremely prepared and ready for it from there.

I think it is a little funny that at least one of the coaching hires has been left off.

I thought he could be good, but he's better than I was wildly dreaming. I was excited but nervous when Fred was hired. "The Mayor" returns is a great story, hoped it was a happy ending. Very pleased so far.
With regards to Fred Never Fails....I recall being on an Iowa board (I never post, I'm not a troll, but I read at times to see what's going on...being in the Iowa City area) and reading them talk about ISU fans treating Steele Jantz like Jesus. I almost posted and said that Fred is our Jesus, Steele might turn out more like our superman. Man of Steel, and all.

Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg
Just who was JP going to get to even interview for our football and basketball jobs after the Chiz and GMac fiascos? Bottom line is Fred and CPR both wanted to come home and in the process they saved JP's butt. I do like the fact that JP is now finally keeping out of the spotlight and letting Fred and CPR be the face of our athletic department, which is a very good thing.

Fred I at first thought it was a splash hire but after he spoke I was 100% in support of it.

Re: Pollard's Hire of Hoiberg
I remember thinking that the Hoiberg hire was a risky, risky move, but I was super excited about it anyway. I was right around age 12 when Fred played at Iowa State. So he was Iowa State basketball to me.
We don't yet know if he will be successful here (in my darker moments, I think that no one can be successful here). But he does display that kind of cool confidence that puts you at ease. There was an email that was forwarded during the 2008 election. It was of Obama and the caption was something like Calm the **** out, I've got this. I kind of feel like Hoiberg could have one of these for the basketball program :)

Thanks for making me feel like a old fart.
