He said he wasn't going to play AAU in order to work on his game. AAU is for exposure and ego inflating rankings.

We have one more opening available in 2012.
With 5 to fill in 2013 you'd think Fred would want to get another kid into the program sooner than later.
We now hopefully have 5 big bodies; White, Booker, Railey, Gibson and Niang. If we go for another big it seems we'd look low post scorer and be very selective on who we sign.
We lose Allen and Scottie but return Clyburn, Babb, Ejim and possibly McGee to play the wings. If we fill here it would seem the need would be a sharp shooting 2.
Point seems filled with Lucious, Sledge and maybe McGee. Looks like 2013 we are targeting PGs which makes sense.
Ok here's the question do we fill the last spot with a Post, a SG or do we wait to see who comes up as a transfer?
I'd like to see us get a SG transfer in 12 and recruit all 5 positions in 2013. With Ejim and Babb being juiniors and Clyburn a senior in 2012 I would think the staff would want a wing 3 coming in. Does Abrahamson (sp?) fit that role?

This is a nice get for FH and company but I don't get why people are acting so elated about the guys FH has signed so far. Gmac inked guys who were rated just as good(or better) and we know how that turned out. Our corp group of guys the last 5 years have been just the same caliber or better than guys FH has brought in so far, why is everyone so sure these guys are going to turn the program around?

If Nkereuwem comes in and plays like Stinson I am going to be elated. We need a Stinson or Willoughby like player that likes the pressure and making big shots in big games. Way to go Fred.
heitclone, I have not done a complete analysis, but GMac signed a lot of guys that were not Big 12 ready in size and never took the court. Fred's players are larger and more ready for the Big 12. Which of Gmac's recruits did you hear, "Big 12 ready body" about? It is good to have a healthy dose of skepticism, but there is a difference in the type of players we are pursuing, maybe not in ratings, but definitely geographically, physically, and style of play.
Fred is a charismatic guy with the ability to relate to players from all over. I will take him over GMac recruiting all day long. If you would rather have GMac I would love to hear why.

Holy crap, I don't think there's anyway we could've expected this. I can't wait until he has a winning record to point to when recruiting.
I kept saying "Fred never fails," but I never expected the boatload of talent that just keeps showing up. Not this much this quickly. It's astounding.

Gmac actually signed some decent players, but his problem was that most of the good ones decided they didn't want to play for him once they got here. On the other hand, players seem to be enamored with Fred.....even the ones that have played for him last season.
Fred did much more with last year's roster than Gmac would have, and Gmac certainly wouldn't have gotten or hung onto all of the transfers so we would be looking at a roster that featured only Scotty, Ejim, Bubu and Railey next year.
If you include transfers into recruiting, do you honestly think that Gmac could have put together a roster like we currently have? White, Booker, Allen, Clyburn, Lucious and Babb would not be here under Gmac.

These are not the same caliber players GMAC brought in. Besides Craig Brackins and Chris Colvin most guys GMAC signed had few if any high major offers. Also, Fred is getting "plan A" guys. Meaning he is signing guys on the top of his list or near the top. Both Niang and Okoro are probably undervalued by Rivals. Simply look at the offer list and go look at the offer list of players ranked between 75-150 and you will see that Okoro and Niang have similar or better offers. Knowing teams like Pitt, Arizona, St. Johns, Maryland, and Texas A&M were actively recruiting these two should be enough to realize they are quality players.
My opinion anyways.

The offer from Pitt is all I need to see to knpow that this guy is a player. Dixon has had Pitt int he NCAA's evry year since he got there and has been a 4 seed or better 8 times including 2 one seeds and a two seed. In short, Dixon knows basketball talent.
The offer sheets are much different between the guys GMac signed and Fred. GMac signed 3 star guys that had offers from Missouri Valley teams and other mid majors. Freds guys are getting offers from major conference teams. Besides, GMac was able to recruit some pretty good talent...he just couldn't keep them here.
Personally, I look at who else has offered rather than the stars.

My opinion anyways. I'm with you (so you might want to change your opinion).
These are not the same kind of players that were coming in with GMAC. Some of his guys had talent that could approach these guys, but they were physically underdeveloped and couldn't compete early enough to help, and the constant roster turnover meant that unprepared kids were thrown to the wolves.
Much better recruiting competition for the guys Fred signs, and they pass the eye test over and over.
