Tavon's back...
....and he brought a jump shot. 49 points last night against Korie Lucious on 19-25 shooting and 7 threes. Had some great drives to the hoop as well. All Lucious could do was shake his head.
If he can consistently shoot the three at even an average rate he will be very hard to guard, even by big 12 standards.

Good to hear. I hope that range will continue. How did everyone else do last night?

Re: Tavon's back...
I missed the first game last night! A buddy of mine told me Sledge was unreal... The first time I saw him I thought his shot looked...bad. Hitting 3's and jumpshots is nice to hear.

Re: Tavon's back...
Was only there for the first game. Ejim/Sledge's team won 127-125 over Babb/Lucious. Ejim 28/13, Sledge 49, Lucious 36, and Babb 30. Abrahamson from Valley had 17.
Up and down game decided by a defensive stop at the end. Pretty entertaining.

He tore up a similar player who so happens to have final four experience. That's impressive no matter how you slice it.
I've been excited about the potential of Tavon but wasn't expecting something like this.

Re: Tavon's back...
Thanks for the post! 19-25 isn't bad wherever you play...
Was Lucious guarding him the whole time? I really need to make it to one of these games to see how much d is actually played.

If he can make jumpers and force defenses to guard him out there it will be tough for guys to stay in front of him. Lucious was trying and couldn't do it.
An earlier game Bubu gave him 5-6 feet and dared him to shoot. Sledge couldn't buy one. When he tried to drive Bubu had good position (and some defensive help coming) and he had trouble getting to the rim and finishing.
Jumper will make all the difference.
And yes, I realize there is a big difference between the Cap City League and the Big 12. Contrary to what my wife thinks, I'm not stupid. -

Half a 100 is half a 100, no matter what league you are in, which is pretty damned good.
Maybe you miss the good old days of Greg's players getting outplayed by guys from DMACC?

Re: Tavon's back...
I missed the first game, but liked what I saw out of McGee in the last game. No particular aspect of his game was overwhelming, but he was good in all phases. Good ups for a guy his size too (even though he whiffed on a dunk attempt).
Booker has a nice shot for a big guy.
Railey's jumper looked pretty good too.
Royce White was toying with people. When he dunks, it seems like he's jamming a tennis ball through a 6 foot hoop.

It's a pick up game like when the basketball guys go to Lied during the spring. You mean these guys can hit jump shots and lay ups when there isn't anyone playing defense? Huh, I'da never guessed.
Do we need to bring up all the guys that averaged a double double in the CCL and then didn't play on some brutal ISU teams?

I don't think he was saying that we should expect Tavon to put up 49 a night in the Big 12, I think all he was saying that for a guy whose strengths are quickness and athleticism, if he can develop a three point shot he could develop into a very good Big 12 player. I'm with you that you can't look too far into the inflated numbers of this CCL, but you certainly can learn a few things about a player watching it.

Ejim was the league MVP last season and the skills he showed in the CCL did translate well into Big 12 play. Name an Iowa State player who put up 49 and didn't play well for us. I know the CCL isn't a true measure, but talent can be easily recognized. Fred's got far more talent on this roster than we have had in years. Given the number of players who he has to choose from I'm sure we're going to have a great season, unless you want to start dogging Fred and the fact he's a second year coach, or we lost Bobby as an assistant coach. Just thought I'd throw those out there so you'd have less to crap all over.

No, he is using the fact that Tavon did this while being guarded by a Final Four caliber PG who played on a team recognized as one of the toughest defensive teams in the country. Also, what part of "if" in the post was confusing?
