Re: Tempering our Expectations
I understand being gunshy after GMAC kicked us straight in the *****. Its interesting how ISU wasnt good enough for his kid but he was good enough to go to an in-state rival, now he is an U19 or whatever he is all star, just a long line of crap we had to eat for 4 years from that guy. Heres to putting all in state schools back into a pecking order.

Sure. I guess if one was 15 and not used to criticism and different opinions that would hold true. If people don't like the post, don't read it or disagree, it doesn't bother me. I agree. There is no way that it isn't realistic to say that this jump in talent can't or shouldn't result in a bunch of extra wins. Yes it was. I would have to say A&M and Oklahoma State games bothered me the most last season.

We shouldn't have that problem anymore. If we get down to Bubu playing crunch time minutes, we should have worn that other team out.

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man" -

Hold on Clonesolo, that was probably too much veiled sarcasm for him to understand, careful when dealing with kids on their summer vacations their brains are turned off:)

Re: Tempering our Expectations
Tim Floyd and Eustachy both said it very well. ISU should be a team that is on the bubble every year and has a shot at NCAA tourney. Since we never came close under Mcdermot I think Fred will have us back to that level this year in year #2...

It was not that ISU wasn't good enough for GMAC's son Doug, it was GMAC knew he was not going to be here for 4 years so his son was not going to come here. If GMAC had been doing well and the fan base was not revolting, Doug would have been a Cyclone.
Further, Doug received ZERO major scholarship offers. Coaches just did not think he was going to be as good as he was. Doug actually is a very good player!

Good lesson, I guess we just keep hearing from the same people over and over. Great way to get involvement and hear opinions. Its not your fault, its just that 4 out of the last 5 seasons we haven't even had a prayer of making the tournament, and we all knew it before the season. And the one season we had a shot was a disaster of biblical proportions. Probably no other major conference basketball school has had to deal with so many depressing seasons in a row.
Most of the ISU BB fans left at this point are die-hards or hopeless optimists (those two are probably one in the same), and nobody wants to spend another year "Waiting for next year", "building for the future". People are ready to win and see a team actually look like an ISU BB team did before Mcdermott destroyed the program. So its hard to temper expectations when everyone has had to do that each year for the better part of a decade. We all want to believe we have a shot to finally be a good team again. Maybe not top of the conference, but at least tourney contender.

Re: Tempering our Expectations
I would like to see people have higher expectations to build excitement for the casual fan.
I believe when you set goals you should be reaching a little bit. I would like to believe that the team has this for an expectation or goal for this year. Who honestly wants to set the expection to make the CBI tournament?

Re: Tempering our Expectations
No point in setting your expectation to make the CBI tournament because ISU will never accept an invite to play in it. Your point remains though.

I just have a couple of questions:
1) Would you and Vet consider yourself friends or lifelong friends?
2) How did he recognize your screenname within the first few seconds of signing up? Having your defender show up so quickly is rarely a coincidence.

If it would have read, I'm tempering my expectations, I wouldn't have even bothered. I just get tired of reading different posters telling everyone else to temper THEIR expectations.
