    All-Time Starting 5

That Article by Hansen got me a wondering; If you could put together an all-time starting 5 who would you go with?

    Mine would probably be:

    PG- Jamaal Tinsley
    SG- Jeff Hornacek
    SF- Jeff Grayer
    PF- Marcus Fizer
    C- Zaid Abdul-Aziz

To me I would have to say the C is the hardest one to pick between former greats such as Abdul-Aziz and Bill Cain.

And for the head coach I would go with Johnny Orr. Now what do you all think?

I believe I would have to agree with that line up. Would be a great team to watch with two excellent passers and Grayer in his prime.

I love Hornacek, but if you're basing this on their college career, I think Gary Thompson would get the nod. Stinson was also an incredibly productive college player. For some reason Stinson draws a lot of negative comments from ISU fans, but he played with a broken hand two years in a row and was still an excellent player.

I'm going small and athletic with a three-guard lineup.

    PG Tinsley
    G Horny
    G Stevens
    PF Fizer
    SF Grayer

This might be the 5 I would pick as well.
I wonder if this hypothetical team would even lose a single game?

You better believe it's hard. No mention of Skogs, Aaron Agnew, or Falenchek.

I was actually leaning towards Jessan Gray.

    Re: All-Time Starting 5

You might have to make some room for 1st Team All-American Gary Thompson. His team did beat Wilt the Stilt's Kansas Jayhawks. He was one of the greatest in ISU history. Hate to diss Hoiberg or Hornacek or even Tinsley, but man HOW can you leave him off?

Transition and Transformation: Gary Thompson, The Roland Rocket - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

I would also note that Gary Thompson was voted Athlete of the Year at ISU twice. And was chosen as the 1957 Player of the Year in the Big Seven Conference. Ahead of WILT Chamberlain.

    I'd put Hoiberg ahead of Horny....but we're talking like a 10 to a 9.9.

Surprised nobody has put Royce White in any starting 5 yet. Perhaps we are waiting until we hear how Italy goes.
