    Italy Details?

I know it won't be on TV but I have some other questions about the coming trip to Italy.

    Will there be live stats?
Who is our first game against?
    How many games are there?
How long will they be in Italy?
How many teams are playing there?

    Thanks for the info.

    Doubt the live stats.
    Not sure it's been released.
    4-5 games.

I'm pretty sure, you won't be getting much other than a score and maybe some general comments on the game. I don't think they can broadcast preseason tours of
this sort or even talk much about them. Not too long ago, we played an exhibition preseason game against another college team (Marquette? Xavier?) and didn't even get a score because of NCAA rules. I don't think these foreign tours are the same, but I'd be surprised if we got many more details than just the score.

Waterloo Courier has been publishing short reports on UNI games in Brazil. Score and individual stats.

West Virginia, Illinois, UMKC, and Fairfield are all in Italy during the time we are. No clue if we are playing any of them though.

    Re: Italy Details?

Apparently we're still working on the schedule of games. Anyone else a little worried that this isn't figured out yet?

Cyclones.com says our first game is against Oleggio Basket, which looks to me to be a 3rd division team, although their website says we're playing some team called Viesc All Stars - which I'm guessing is the club's best youth players (Youth in Europe can go up to U23). Either way, just about any NCAA team should be better than any 3rd league European team, so the competition here shouldn't be too tough.

Hopefully we can snag a friendly against at least a Serie B squad, but I think we could probably hang with the average Serie A team, too.

Edit* Looks like game should tip at 7AM CDT.

Probably not too big of a deal, IMO. Either way, the players will get a free trip to Italy out of it, as well as several extra practices (huge advantage for the players and coaches).

I spent a semester in Italy. I'm not the least bit surprised that the schedule is not set. This seems to be the Italian way. I also won't be surprised if at least one of te four desired games ilfalls through, or they get some kind of switcheroo at the last minute.

Now, if this were Germany, Austria, Switzerland... It would have been set in stone abort four months ago.

Regardless, this is a great trip for the players. I'm certain they will have a great time, and build chemistry when at least two of them get their pockets picked, camera stolen, miss a train, or get screamed at by a stranger in a piazza in Italian.

This a sounds cynical, but I did REALLY enjoy Italy.

    From the Oleggio site:

Friendly luxury Palazzetto Oleggio where tomorrow evening will be the formation ofIowa State University opposed to a selection named quality Vlesc All Stars. Two ball at 20.30. If you want to attend a show come to the stadium, the fun is guaranteed!

    Oleggio IE can translate it.
