Re: In State Basketball talent
Russ Millard was in the same class as Hoiberg, et al.

Re: In State Basketball talent
its one of the strange aspects of isu hoops history - we don't get much in-state. the only time was the hoiberg/meyer/beechum teams, which got us 3 ncaa's and zero sweet 16s. horner, haluska, brunner got 2 ncaa's and zero wins.
how crazy would it be if the state produced 7 nba players (in the past 20 years) and zero went to iowa or iowa state (lafrenz, hinrich, collison, korver, barnes, paige, woodbury).
(yes i realize nba may be a stretch for paige and woodbury).

Re: In State Basketball talent
We've got to look at it statistically also (not talking about player stats). What is the population of "kids" in age brackets-like say 16-18-compared to more populous areas. If you're a state or region with more kids available in a certain age range compared to another state or region the odds are you'll have more players of a high caliber to draw from. There is ,of course, some outside factors that skew that a little. For example, if you're an athlete from a major FB area you may be playing FB and not even interested in BB or wrestling. But I think a lot of it is to some degree based simply on numbers of kids and the thus the odds of how many "star" athletes a state or region theoretically will produce.

Where does he play HS ball? AAU ball? He's an Iowa kid for all purposes. Growing up I played the majority of my soccer/basketball games in Illinois, but my address had IA in it. Strangely enough, I was considered a resident of the state of Iowa. Truly wierd how that works, I know.

Re: In State Basketball talent
i'm 100% confident hoiberg will go after any top iowa players that make sense for us. we didn't get uthoff, or paige. abrahamson apparently had an offer, but you didn't hear much about him. and gesell wasn't "our type" (I assume we liked okoro much better).
the best part about hoiberg is that we won't waste time with kids who either aren't good enough, or are lifetime hawkeye fans.

If you played in Iowa, you are going to count as an Iowa kid.
And if you played basketball for Rock Island HS but lived in Davenport, people would consider you an Illinois kid

Re: In State Basketball talent
It's a great class. Just none are going to ISU.

He had a good camp, but had some poor performances in some tournaments.
I have no idea if the kid is going to be good or not, to be honest I don't really care.

That's probably why he continues to move up in the rankings and garner offers from top schools. Just hate it when someone tries to downplay another's legit talent simply b/c we don't have a shot at him.

Not saying Woodbury is not going to be a great player. I just have my doubts that that he is going to be dominant the second he steps on campus.
Its not sour grapes, I would welcome Woodbury at ISU.
