Prospect
Rank the In-State Schools This Year:
1. ISU: We have a lot of new players, but most were with the team last year. We also return SC and ME. Not the most experienced, but the most talented. Prediction: At worst NIT/Bubble NCAA. If Royce White really lights up and lives up to his potential, will be the most surprising team in the nation.
2. Iowa: Just like ISU, the Hawkeyes are also going through a surge with a second year coaching staff. They will be better but still not a NCAA team..Have some nice young players in Basabe and Marble. Next year's recruiting class is impressing too. A NIT Bubble Team.
3. UNI: They have some nice returning players like Koch, Moran, James, Sonnon, and Morrison.. Have lost a lot of talent though.. They will be competitive.
4. Drake: I really do not know much about them. I do recognize Kurt Alexander, Ryvonte Rice, Ben Simons, and Seth VanDeest..
Overall.. I am excited that the Cyclones and Hawks are on the way up again.. It is great for the state. I also hope UNI continues to have success and I do not doubt they will. I know Drake is a tough place to win at, but it can be done.
Thoughts??

Re: Rank the In-State Schools This Year:
1. The Iowa State Cyclones
Then, the others..who cares...much lower ranked than us....where they should be and should stay for some time with Hoiberg running the show.

Thoughts?? I agree with the ISU and DRAKE ranking, but am a little less confident that Iowa will end up 2nd.
I see your point, BUT the Iowa-UNI game is in Cedar Falls. UNI will be geared up for this. I think that the key going into this game will be whether or not Cartwright is healthy. If he goes down or is playing injured (i.e. at less than 100%), I give the big advantage to UNI. Otherwise this is a toss-up.
Secondly, I'd rather have the Hawks stay an "average-at-best" team (although the future does seem to be brighter for them). Too much abuse taken by Hawk fans from the mid-80s until today - I don't want to see them do well in basketball - period!

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2" -

Iowa is really starting to look tough, next year. I hope we get rolling this year and never look back.

Re: Rank the In-State Schools This Year:
Rice for Drake is a really nice and under rated player.

Re: Rank the In-State Schools This Year:
Right now I would say
1-ISU
2-Iowa
3-UNI
4-Drake
D. McDermott going to Creighton killed UNI. As long as Phelps is at Drake they will alwayd be number 4.

Thoughts?? Iowa is going to be friggin terrible. As long as Jacobsen stays at UNI, they will compete night in and night out.

The fact that they lost one player and gained 3 decent Freshmen? The Hawks won't be good, but they'll be better than last year. Fo sho.

The only in state team that matters is ISU. Iowa is just terrible. They hardly even get to 10 wins a year.
