Non Con Sched.
What is your guys prediction of our non con sched this year. I hadnt seen the sched until today and I could see us go 12-2 or 13-1. The only team I dont think we are better than is Michigan and I have no facts to back that up other than they are Michigan and its in their gym. Who do you see is as problem teams?

Re: Non Con Sched.
Only 2 teams we should lose to is Northern Iowa and Michigan. Not saying we will lose to them, but they're our 2 toughest opponents. I can see a 13-1 record going into conference play.
There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams -

I like the Northern Iowa match up this year since it will be in Ames. Should be a great game.

Re: Non Con Sched.
We owe UNI a beating. The past two years they have snuck past us by having terrible refs for the game. Wasn't it last year they were called for fouls for just barely touching them? It was horrid.

“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads -

Re: Non Con Sched.
Michigan is hopefully the only one that gives us any troubles. I don't see any of the others even being relatively close.

U-M is the most obvious "probably loss," being on the road against what's been a resurgent program. Thing is, if Michigan's 3's don't fall, it seems like a team that can be beaten (especially if ISU is as talent-heavy as we're led to believe).
But again, it is a road game.
Another place I could see a loss is vs. Providence. Neutral court against most Big East teams (save maybe DePaul & USF) I wouldn't bet the farm.
I would have niggling feeling about Northern Colorado in South Padre Invite if that was on neutral floor (No-Col got an auto-bid last season, correct? Not sure who's back). But in Ames, expect a W.
Other than that, UNI & Iowa are both at home. Just not seeing L's with those, although I imagine either could be close games.
God I hope we don't lose to UNI again. I realize they've had some very good teams recently, but — geez I'm sick of that, especially at home.

We cannot go worse than 13-1 if we are the team we want to be. Period.

Exception might be if some team on the schedule is leaps-and-bounds better than people expect. I'm not seeing a lot of other candidates in that regard (at least nothing that would indicate overcoming "bad loss" material).
A 12-2 record wouldn't be bad, and even 11-3 isn't the end of the world, but it wouldn't bode well. That would likely would require an upper-third conference finish and possibly a head-turning Big 12 win.
I'm talking in terms of an NCAA bid, not just a postseason appearance. This quick-build plan can generate momentum for ground-up recruiting, but needs to pay dividends this season.

This quick-build plan can generate momentum for ground-up recruiting, but needs to pay dividends this season. 12-2 or 11-3 probably would be the end of the world in terms of an NCAA bid, just based on what the strength of schedule likely looks to be. That schedule probably isn't going to do us a whole lot of favors in that department. If we lose 3 against that part of the schedule, we almost need to run the table in conference play or win the conference tournament to get a bid.
I don't think we do worse than 13-1, but we absolutely need to go 13-1 or better to really go to the NCAAs.
