How do you defend this team?

Its an honest question. I think this year we have a lot of weapons that we can use. Scotty and Babb are both great shooters, White is a great ball handler, shooter, passer and sounds like a absolute beast at 6-7 270...If you were another team preparing to play us how would you guard us? I think the best bet to beat us this year is to pressure our PG, even though I think chris allen has the potential to be one of the better guards in the conference, it seems to be the only area lacking in experience.

You cant defend this Team, ISU is going to Rip up the Big XII or is it the Big Ten ? Lets just say they have a great shot to winning this Conferance

Let's not get hasty. Probably the best way to beat this team is to simply outscore them. They will have to prove that they can defend Big 12 teams. I could see some Johnny Orr scores like 102-101. Hopefully Fred has that press clicking.

It depends. Right now we don't know how good our gaurds will be about penetrating the lane and scoring closer in. If you turn out to be good at it than the best way to beat us would be to play some zone and force us to win with 3 pointers. Every team has an off night from behind the arc and I guarantee you'll see teams, especially early in the season, try that. If our guards end up not being able to break away from close coverage I'd expect a lot of man coverage with some help guarding on White. If that ends up getting teams burned on assists by White expect some change ups on D with more inside defenders trying to double team him.

Failing that, I recommend trying to buy off the refs.

Lock down whoever is handling ball/ bringing it up court. Guard tight on the arc, until we prove we can penetrate or pass inside and score. That's what I would try.

Try to get in our heads and hope we have an off night. We have four great shooters, so odds are we will have at least one guy that's hot from the three every night. Single White and he will burn most people. Double him and our open guy will burn you.

Couldn't agree more. The pace Fred has them playing is a two-way street, as it keeps the other team moving and gives them more opportunities to score; we just have to score more efficiently. Everyone on this team is a shooter, and the added depth this year will allow them to keep their legs fresher and finish games. Move those 9 losses by 6 points or less last year into the win column, and we'll be in the post-season.

It probably depends on how each particular team matches up. If they have a good defensive big, they will might man up (if that is their style). If they don't, they may try zone and try to get out on the perimeter to disrupt our shooters as best they can.

You get Royce White in foul trouble. Or at least you try to go inside enough on offense that we want to play Railey or Booker instead of Babb or Ejim.

IMO, our weakness on offense will be our guards off the dribble. If you can take Royce out of the equation, you can put your best perimeter defender on Allen, play tight on Babb and Scotty, and try to force them or one of our young PGs to create something.

The thing that scares me about our team is who is going to take the ball at the end of the shot clock and score. You can probably deny the ball from Royce and make one of the guards try to beat you off the dribble. Hopefully Allen is that guy, but I'm not convinced he's really that type.

I think you defend this team on the offensive side of the ball. Have to see what this team is defensively, especially down low. Say what you will, no matter how effective or ineffective our posts, such as Railey, Gibson and Booker, are, they need to take defensive pressure off of White. If a team is able to get Royce in foul trouble, our offense could (could) stall.

I hope we get a lot of penetration in the paint, (as opposed to last year). I just don't want to be one of those teams that is cappable of driving the lane... yet live and die behind the arc. I'm sure we're going to surprise the heck out of a bunch of teams this season! ...and I'm as pumped as ever for this season to get underway!

i believe this team will contend for the Big 12 title, no question. Team is talented, and we will have one of the biggest mis matches in the league with white. I also think its a huge benefit that a lot our team this year is older which usually equals stronger, and smarter.

we will have 4-5 options beyond the arc every single night... ejim will finally be free to play where he is comfortable.. we are deep and good.
