Re: Royce White playing point forward

royce being double teamed would be great. that last two years, we've played with 1) no one who even drew double teams or 2) craig brackins, who really struggled finding the open man. we've been doing everything the hard way....

Last year our guards got double teamed a lot after passing half court. Not because they were good enough to be drawing double teams, but because it caused turnovers because of bad ball handling.

I'd rather see a Royce white get double teamed than say a Tavon Sledge. Royce is tall and good luck getting the ball from him.

I am worried about who handles the ball in a tie game with 1:00 left. I'd like to see royce on the block as opposed to with the ball. At least both are options.

All these things make you start getting really concerned about our PGs on the team.

It is the only hole that we have. Only time will tell how big of a problem it will cause us.

One thing I worry about is how we will match up with big teams with our 3 guard line up with our biggest guy as the point.

But it is also true that the other teams will have trouble guarding us. Who do you put on the 6'8" guy bringing the ball up the floor?

If we are able to dictate the tempo, then the other team will be the one that struggles with out line up. If we have to go big, we can play a line up that includes some combo of Booker, Gibson and Railey.

    1- Allen
    2- Scotty
    3- RW
    4- Booker
    5- Railey

That would be a big line up

It's great to have someone with that kind of versatility. Still concerned about having a presence down low if he is out high, but I suppose they can play off that to get him open down low after the pass.

Magic Johnson was a 6 ft. 9 in point guard in the NCAA for MSU and in the pros for LAL. Just sayin'.

So, all we really need to do is get him a sweet nickname for his pt. guard status I guess.

And get Royce to be the 2nd best basketball player ever. I see the similarity but you are going to get blasted for this.

Ha. yes, it would be nice to have Royce play at that level.

Still, the point is that a very tall guy playing the point has been done. My guess is that we will see it in certain situations this year and that will be it. Again, if Hoiberg is on board with it, it means he trusts the guy with the ball, I am fine with it too.

I don't think it's a problem. In fact, if he's the passer we think he is, it might be ideal.

First, the big man guarding him isn't going to be pressing when he gets across half court. Even if they put an athletic guy close to his size, you're not going to bring another big. This basically means you're bringing one or two guards. First, this is easy for someone at his height to pass out of. Second, it creates match up problems elsewhere.

Royce playing PG shouldn't matter on defense.

I saw some of RW's passes during summer league. Absolute darts.
