    Re: Royce White will dominate

Royce will be fine. He was nervous. First game jitters. I would love to see him drive more to the hoop. He seems to get fouled all the time doing that, but saying that he does need to improve his FT shooting. It didn't look good tonight and we can't be having two air balls a night.

He was maybe 225 lbs compared to the 270 he got up to. He was just very undeveloped. He tried to play the same post game he was able to play his junior year, but he got moved around pretty easily. He took a lot of errant shots 10-14 feet out because he couldn't get closer, but he was pretty much all we had.

Really the same could be said to lesser extent for Babb, Allen and Booker. Those guys will have to knock off some of the rust as well.
I don't understand why people don't remember this FACT.

Ejim was a monster today, guess what? He played last year, and he knew what to expect at Hilton. Scott was playing a new position, but he will be fine.

Add Bubu, and those are the three that played in Hilton last year.

If you don't think that the rest of the transfers had a big ol' case of the nerves, then you are kidding yourselves.

Give it time. It is the preseason, and we are just two years removed from chewey decimating the program....Some of this is even stupider than the football whiners.

playing a game in an arena for the first time may also be why we struggled.

Really enjoyed watching Royce and Babb for the first time. My concern focuses more on Scotty, he looked completely out of sync and out played by GVS. Sure I expected a bigger blowout, but at the same time I will echo what a lot of others have said: White and others could have scored at will but we were clearly tinkering and trying out new things.

Still extremely optimistic for the season. Hopefully a good late season run that will allows us to sneak into the NCAA tourney.

I disagree about Scotty being out of sync. He did have 6 assists and only 2 TO's. As a PG that is what you want to see. I'd be more concerned if he had only 2 assists and 12 pts. I think his scoring will come around when he gets use to his new role. He had a couple of looks but just missed them. Patience.

    Re: Royce White will dominate

As good as Royce is, I would like to see him work more on some post moves closer to the basket. This is a glaring issue that we have NO post presence or inside game. Well Royce can somewhat, but no one else has any strong inside game whatsoever. Need to keep defenses a little bit honest. Maybe Railey has improved to help this, but not counting on it til I see it.

I would like to see Royce play better post defense. Being's that this was his first college bball game there is plenty of time for him to improve.

Agree. RW will only get better as the season goes along. Im not worried about the offense part of his game. First game gitters I would have done the same thing in front of a large crowd, hell I probably wouldnt have hit the rim on my first few attempts from the field... or free throw line. But to the people that were there, does he have good position on defense? How does he do on the low block against other post players on defense?

He was a bit lazy on low post defense yesterday, but that always happens with bigs against perceived inferior competition. His positioning was fine, it was a lack of moving his feet and going for pump fakes when he should have stayed down. That's easily fixed. Another issue was the guys just looked a little gassed at times. Which is also to be expected.

First game with a lot of new guys! Lets wait maybe 5 or 6 games before we even start forming opinions.

May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)

I really don't think Scotty at PG is the best idea at this point, but i'll trust Freddy and see what happens. I just hope Fred isn't scared enough like McDermott was at pulling someone if they arn't playing as well as they need to be.

    Technically, it was longer.

And, truthfully, not nearly as meaningful.
