If only he had shown up to play today -
Re: Tyrus McGee
I like Tyrus McGee a lot. He's a very good player.

Re: Tyrus McGee
Ha, Clonedude, you look really stupid right about now. Mcgee had a great game.

Re: Tyrus McGee
He's a very nice piece to a very dangerous team. we look like someone that opponents can't afford an off-moment against. I like that we can apply that pressure.

I also figured that about half the people would take my definition of "recruiting miss" the wrong way and assume I was being harsh on Tyrus McGee, which of course couldn't be further from the truth. I don't know how many times I needed to say that McGee is a Big 12 quality player.
I remember Fred commenting on McGee when he was recruited that he believed he could play the point guard position. And the fact is, Hoiberg has now mentioned guys like Scotty, Allen, Bubu, and Sledge for the PG position, and not McGee. So it's a fair assumption that maybe McGee wasn't the PG that Fred thought he possibly could be?
As someone mentioned, Fred is going to put his best possible PG that he has out there. Why wouldn't he? And right now, that is Scotty.... according to Fred, not me. And as CloneIce said... that kinda says something about the PG abilities of some of the other players.
I think most of us would agree that we don't really have a true starting PG right now. So the question becomes... is that a big deal or not? Obviously it's WAY too early to tell right now. Maybe we won't need a true PG all year? I don't know.
But, I'm a little concerned that possibly our best 3 pt shooter, and one of the best 3 pt shooters in the country, didn't get one 3 pt shot off in the first game being our PG. That might have just been a fluke and maybe Scotty will go 5-7 from 3 point range today or something? Also, Grand Valley State's best player on their team by far was their PG, so he probably had something to do with Scotty struggling to get a shot off?
Sorry to try to attempt to start an intelligent conversation about ISU basketball. My bad. At least you ended by saying you are bad at writing an intelligent post. -
Re: Tyrus McGee
Stupid Tyrus, how dare he not score in double figures.

Re: Tyrus McGee
C'mon guys. I disagreed with the OP as well, but you're not even arguing the same point that he raised. McGee could have gone for 30 but that wouldn't necessarily change the fact we don't have a "true PG" as argued by the OP.

That's well-established and agreed upon by all. We've all accepted that in some way, shape or form.
As soon as he tried to suggest that McGee was a recruiting miss/bust, this thread was over, since that idea is absolutely stupid after one exhibition game. Given that he did that in the first post, the thread had no chance. One could call the thread a bust.

Given that he did that in the first post, the thread had no chance. One could call the thread a bust. But he suggested he was a recruiting miss insofar as he's not a true PG. He was saying McGee is a two when we really needed a one. That has nothing to do with how good of a player McGee is, strictly speaking.
I don't understand what's difficult to grasp about that distinction.

I don't understand what's difficult to grasp about that distinction. We don't know that Fred recruited him to be a "true PG" though. It's a silly and dumb thing to say. It's not Tyrus' fault that he's not something clonedude wants him to be.

He's suggesting that the kid is a miss while showing no idea about the style of offense that we will run, which is something that we've pretty well beaten into the ground all offseason.
If he were a brand-new guy throwing that out there, it might make sense, or would probably be a Hawkeye troll. In this case, it's a poster with a long track record of finding things/making up reasons to complain. Poster + post = no real chance of good reception.
