My answer to that question is no. We have plenty of combo guards to get by without a true PG.
The question is about Fred's recruiting strategy, not the talent level of McGee.

I also figured that about half the people would take my definition of "recruiting miss" the wrong way and assume I was being harsh on Tyrus McGee, which of course couldn't be further from the truth. I don't know how many times I needed to say that McGee is a Big 12 quality player.
I remember Fred commenting on McGee when he was recruited that he believed he could play the point guard position. And the fact is, Hoiberg has now mentioned guys like Scotty, Allen, Bubu, and Sledge for the PG position, and not McGee. So it's a fair assumption that maybe McGee wasn't the PG that Fred thought he possibly could be?
As someone mentioned, Fred is going to put his best possible PG that he has out there. Why wouldn't he? And right now, that is Scotty.... according to Fred, not me. And as CloneIce said... that kinda says something about the PG abilities of some of the other players.
I think most of us would agree that we don't really have a true starting PG right now. So the question becomes... is that a big deal or not? Obviously it's WAY too early to tell right now. Maybe we won't need a true PG all year? I don't know.
But, I'm a little concerned that possibly our best 3 pt shooter, and one of the best 3 pt shooters in the country, didn't get one 3 pt shot off in the first game being our PG. That might have just been a fluke and maybe Scotty will go 5-7 from 3 point range today or something? Also, Grand Valley State's best player on their team by far was their PG, so he probably had something to do with Scotty struggling to get a shot off?
Sorry to try to attempt to start an intelligent conversation about ISU basketball. My bad.
Intelligent conversations can't be one-sided. (Here's a hint: You aren't on the intelligent side of it)

Frankly, I think it's an insult, not classy at all, and not constructive at all, that you would call him a bust after an exhibition game. It's even more of an insult to expect people to respond in a respectful way for insulting one of our players because he isn't the type of player YOU think he should be. I'm sorry but I concur with others, you're probably one of the worst posters on this board and if guys want to insult you, my only hope it is stops you from posting anymore.

Was Jamaal Tinsley a recruiting miss in 1999, after his poor performance against the loss to Drake?
