#9 Pitt got handled by Long beach State, and #7 Vandy lost to a senior-laden Cleaveland team. Both were at home, and both were not even close games!
Yes losing to Drake blows, but I think it is too soon to go into panic mode for our team. I hope this game humbles us, and they realize we are going to have to work hard to win, especially when they are still "gelling". From there on I still trust Fred to have a well rounded team coming into the Big 12 season. I never bought into the preseason hype, but I am sure as hell not ready to jump off a bridge yet like half this forum. Good teams lose when they dont play well, especially early in the year.
The problem that we have is we do not just rent a point guard. Our loss was not due to lack of effort as much as the game plan will not be too hot when we hit conference play. If we could just wall off the game, it would be one thing. Yet the first three court games indicate a bigger problem with the direction of the team. We have less rebounding prowess than we may need. We have shooters with poor methods of getting them the ball. We have little help defense inside. The Drake game may be only the tip of the iceberg unless significant changes are made.
Drake did not play all that great and yet we lost. Drake had many errors and still won. Drake was given a gift win at the end.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
The gap between the big boys and the mid majors is shrinking. While I hate to lose to Drake (since my brother now gets to give me crap for awhile), it is hopefully a wake up call and we learn from the experience.
I saw Cleveland State play a few times last year, and they return almost everyone. They are going to win their conference easily and they are going to be the VCU of this year's tournament. I wouldn't be surprised if they go undefeated or lose a couple games. (Butler is in their conference by the way)
