2011 Thread: Just Got Back From The Game and My Current Take on The MBB Team

Other than Gibson's play in the short time he got tonight, what did you see that was positive. I saw a team that missed lay ups, played lazy defense, were out positioned on rebounds, panicked when the game was on the line, was way outcoached, and has no pasion or hustle. This team played about 5 minutes of decent basketball tonight and that was when Gibson was in.

I didn't realize that 5 minutes was 3/4 of the first half.

Based off of this and your other thread... seriously, what game were you watching? I'm honestly curious what positives you saw.

Both teams played better than last year (last year's game was one of the most god-awful worst games of basketball I've ever watched), but all I saw was terrible defense and a lack of a cohesive offense. Bad.

Well we didnt win the last five min. of the beginning half, five min. at the beginning second half or the last five min. of the second half

We lost to a better team, albeit a better team with SIGNIFICANTLY less talent. It was very frustrating to watch. Only positives are Percy looked very good and..it's still early. I sure hope Fred gets them communicating and playing like a TEAM. If I wanted to see 5 individual players all trying to get theirs, I'd watch the NBA. (Once they start playing again)

If my math is right (and feel free to check it. It might not be): we scored 14 in the 1st 5 minutes, and then 14 for the rest of the first half. 3/4 of the first half was poor, lifeless play.

What do you Mean 3/4 of the first half? Are you talking about Gibson's playing time, he only played 8 minutes all in the second half, or are you talking about the first 5 minutes of the game where we wen't up 14-4 then got outscored 29-14 to end the half? Our best minutes were around the 10-5 minute mark in the second half. We than panicked, Scotty got beat on D, and we lost.

I saw bad defense, but that falls on coaching. I hate what we are doing on defense, but our players weren't just "standing around" like everyone seems to believe.

I live 8 miles from the Hilton and WILL NOT show up to watch this kind of petty, lazy, selfish play . . not at 5 bucks or 25.

Thank God. The less people in Hilton like this the better.

They may not have been standing around, but they sure were not standing by the guy they were supposed to be guarding.

We lost to a better coached team. Why do these players not get it? I'm sure Fred isn't telling them don't play intense defense, don't rebound with fire, do play sloppy offense.

By your logic, if they are realists, they shouldn't ever show up in the first place. Once again the coaches (the people that actually know about basketball) picked us at the bottom of the conference this year. Unrealistic fans are the people that hyped this team into the Final Four. So no, I wouldn't call them realists. I'd call them pathetic fair weather fans.

Royce is playing much better.
Our guys (except Allen) are making better shot selections.
Percy Gibson looks pretty good
Our Defense (when not lost) was better than it has been all year.
When we got loud (and it got pretty loud in Hilton) they seemed to take advantage (unlike last year).

I guess I'm more of a glass half full type of person.
