I questioned the Def. after UNI Loved the changes today
We didn't even do anything trick. Just played straight man to man. Didn't hedge on screens, but didn't switch every screen or play that Wally Szczerbiak Defense either. (I, like some, use Hedge as a blanket term for about 4-6 different ways to use the man guarding the screener to affect the ball screen.)
How many times are we gonna shoot that poorly? Not many.
The effort was there. Working on D helped this team carry a diff attitude.
After the first loss of the year for the last 10 yrs Cyclone fans point to the loss to Drake in 1999-2000, but I have never been one of those. However, for those fans that want to point to one game turning a season around this is it.
Love the change from a switching D. Like I said we didn't even have a real defensive philosophy this game other than guard your man.
We can certainly build from here.
Loved Royce's effort the whole game.
We aren't gonna shoot this poorly again the whole yr.
Freddy got the team's attention and I am more pumped up about what this team can do then at any point in pre-season or during the previous 7 games.

Oh yeah this was a different team today. As a fan I am flushing everything I saw from the first 7 games. Nothing from those games applied today

Re: I questioned Def after UNI Loved it today
Agree, defense was actually pretty good. We still have issues on D in the post (allowing the pass deep to the block, "losing" cutters, etc.). But- you have to credit Michigan with some good shooting. A lot of those swishes were with a hand in the face. Not much you can do about those. Pair that with really cold shooting by us, and you have a lopsided loss.
Rebounding was decent. I think we bested them by a few.
Royce looked GREAT!

Well, this is at least the 3rd time that I can think of. So far against our 3 best opponents, we haven't shot well at all. I think that's a trend.

fair play to you I wasn't very clear in what I meant.
I would say this is the first time that we missed as many wide open shots as we did today. We probably won't do that again

Very encouraging finish to the game today. That's all I'm going to say. If we take that and do something with it, good. If not, it doesn't matter.

Put the fire & urgency during desperation time into the first 35 minutes (a little full-court pressing, going for steals in half-court, Royce going to the hoop with authority) this team could win 24 games.

Re: I questioned the Def. after UNI Loved the changes today
Would love to see us press more as we did in the last few minutes today. We have guard depth to get after it for 3-4 minutes stints. Also it would provide some run outs and a more up tempo game. We have athletes, would love to use them in this type of game. It would also allow us to not get so complacent in our offense. I know many of our players came here because they were told we would play up tempo. We are anything but up tempo w/o a PG.
Liked the effort today, we just missed too many shots to win.

I would have no problem if they slapped a 3/4 press or half court trap on teams like he said. He said they'd play pressure D and be an Up tempo Offense. Well it is hard to be up tempo on O when you are picking the ball out of the net.

Re: I questioned the Def. after UNI Loved the changes today
I think we are starting to figure it out now if the team would play with the same heart the team did last season we would get alot better very fast.

Re: I questioned the Def. after UNI Loved the changes today
We had a lot of open looks yesterday. Alot of missed shots werent due to Michigans' defense.
