Re: Tyus Jones
O.K enough with Minnesota trying to refer to themselves as "The U". Everyone knows that "The U" is Miami.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Sorry, but Minnesota trumps both Miami and Utah when it comes to claiming the title of "The U". It's one of the few states that have only one major university so the name is certainly appropriate. Utah shares the billing with Utah State & BYU while Miami is a notch below Florida and competes with other institutions in the state in terms of prestige.

Re: Tyus Jones
I don't even like Miami but that is who "The U" is. Also everyone can quit say THEE before their name also. That is an Ohio State thing. THEEE Iowa State university makes it sound like we stole it. Not that I have heard anyone say that about Iowa State but other schools are trying to steal it. I hate Ohio State also.

Pretty sure that right there makes them The U.

Re: Tyus Jones
Just because Minnesota is the only state school does not make them the U. What are you talking about. "The U" is a nickname Miami has givin itself. Minnesota just copied it.

I'll buy a hat and eat it if he comes to ISU. He's going to a blue-blood.
PS- My cousins went to Minny and called it "The U" a couple decades ago. It had nothing to do with sports. It's just a way of describing the school since it's in the metro area.
There are smaller schools like a Mankato State but up there they say "The U" for the University.
Not sure why anybody GaF.

Re: Tyus Jones
I never understood why some people think Minnesotans (or people from any other state for that matter) don't have the right to refer to the U of M as "the U".......I think it's funny that this actually bothers people.
Everyone in Minnesota refers to the "U" as the University of Minnesota for very obvious reasons & it's been like this for a very long time. When people say I go to the "U" or he/she works for the "U" up here in the cities, nobody even considers it being Miami.......the opposite is probably true in Utah, Florida and numerous other states.
Since this article is from a twin cities based media outlet, it seems fitting they refer to the "U" since a majority of their readers know exactly what that means. "The U" is basically short for the "U of M," so........get over it. ;)

It bugs me, but I understand that it really has nothing to do with anyone else. By the way, you really never see Gopher Athletics do much with the nickname themselves. Usually it is the University as a whole apart from the AD that uses it. However, the media up here uses it indiscriminately.

Even if we find Miami did use it first, how do you know that U of MN even knew about U of Miami when they started using it? It really only became vogue when Miami started having national athletic success even if it may have been used before that.
If an Iowa State tradition is copied by someone else who takes it to national awareness, does that mean ISU should immediately abandon it because it "belongs" to that other university?

Did we copy USC's school colors?
No.

This guy would be huge, but I am not betting on this one unless we make a SERIOUS splash the next couple years.

No but we copied their uniforms. Don't act like we didn't either.

If you are using the same colors, chances are your uniforms are going to be very similar. I am more surprised that USC uses an off the rack design.
