Re: Williams Blog: Time for MBB to take things up a notch
they need to watch old videos of how hard Dedric W. and Fred worked for shots. They ran from one side to the other, cut hard and rubbed their shoulders as close to the pickers as possible to free them selves up for shots. Our guys this year are not doing this.

Also, watch the highlights of the Tinsley teams. It seems like we pushed it up the floor hard every play. I we couldn't get to the rim, Nurse or Horton would be spotted up for an open three as the defense was all out of position.
Now we walk it up every trip, and everyone stands around. Just hard to get great looks. It looks to me like everyone thinks they are a combination of LaBron, Dwayne Wade and Kobe. They all want to shoot the jab step fade-away 3, or clear out and take the defender off the dribble. Even when open, every except SC shoots fade-away shots. Hopefully Fred can coach them up.

The good news: There is only one thing this team is lacking. - toughness.
The bad news: It's not something that can easily be taught.

If you are in Hilton quite often you see him laying into people. I know he really laid into Royce a couple times this year during timeouts.

Allens shot selection is horrible.

We don't even have a scholarship point guard on the roster, let alone a starting NBA caliber point.
edit: whoops forgot about Sledge. My point still stands - we don't have a guard who's ready to lead that kind of attack.

This team just lack intensity. I think there are enough guys that play with fire on this team that Fred can rotate them in to spark the team.

I'd take this bet. Agreed. They have not shot well against good defenses. I completely disagree with Chris, and this is not the first time they've combined to shoot like crap.
Drake - Combined 7-24 (29.2%)
Providence - Combined 10-26 (38.5%)
Michigan - Combined 7-31 (22.6%)
I must also point out that Chris Allen randomly scored I think 3 baskets in the final 90 seconds against Michigan. Without those, it would have been probably 4-28 (14.3%).
Then the Central Michigan game was 4-18 which is basically close to the Michigan game in FG % (like 2/5 of 1% off)

I also disagree that the team only comes to play against 'good' competition. They didn't come to play against Michigan, and they folded against UNI. I think they have been consistent in their inconsistent play and lapses in defense and effort. Doesn't matter if it is a good or bad team.

Another area I disagree with Chris on is that Allen will be the leading scorer by the end of the year.

They had a ton of open threes within the offense that didn't fall.
I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others. -
