Yeah, some exaggerated hyperbole on my part I'll admit. I do at times use exaggeration to prove a point. With that being written, I do think there is a small but hardcore subset of Cyclone fans who think CFH will be or already is a great coach simply because they WANT him to be a great coach. Same thing with some hardcore Bronco/Tim Tebow fans; Tebow is or will be a great QB because those people WANT him to be one.
Take the poster I responded to; we have a great coach. What has CFH done so far to prove that he's a great coach? Nothing. Doesn't mean he's a bad coach either, just let him earn this praise some people are willing to give him. I do distinctly remember a year and a half ago when CFH was hired that there was at least one poster (and I don't remember who it was) who wrote (and I'm paraphrasing here) "If you're not super-duper excited about this hire then you're not a real Cyclone fan!" If that kind of thinking isn't cultlike/blind hero worship than I don't know what is.

BTW, Coach Izzo's playing experience was entirely Division 2. Athletic talent and coaching ability are poorly correlated.

Izzo is a great coach, he has proven himself over and over. The game that you are referencing is probably NOT the best example of his greatness though.
Why do you think that Izzo is a great coach? He had his fanbase way down on him after his 2nd or 3rd year...Then he recruited the PLAYERS that won that game.
Lord, if you think that we had MORE talent in 2000 than that Michigan State team did, it is not fair to argue with you.
It's funny everybody on here slobbers all over themselves at the memory of LE here, yet they never mention that including the two NCAA's that JT got him to here, he has just ONE other trip to the NCAA in his whole career. What was the difference, he had the two best players in the conference in 2000, and the best player in the conference in 2001.
The point is, was, and always will be, that upsets are called that because the team that wasn't supposed to win did. The team with more good players on it, usually wins the games.
Coach K was almost fired after his first 3 years at Duke, but he had recruited Johnny Dawkins, Bilas, Alarie, and Danny Ferry. People always grow and improve, but he won at Army before that. At Duke, he lost until he had as many, if not more, good players as UNC and the rest.
Michigan fans couldn't get rid of Tommie Ammaker fast enough, now he is winning like crazy at Harvard. OK, it is pretty obvious then that he can coach. Why did he do so poorly at Michigan? He didn't have as many good players as 6-7 other teams in that league.
There are sooooo many examples of this that it is sick. There are coaches conferences, like the MVC. But in top six conferences, like the big 12, BE. ACC, it is mainly about recruiting, and getting talent in the program.

Re: How many B12 wins do we get?
Bump.
With their 9th conference win, I think the Cyclones have officially beat everybody's predictions in this thread (except for a couple people that put ranges). I didn't post but I think I might have guessed around 6. And the joke prediction of 17 wins is going to be closer than some other peoples. The only bigger surprise is that Miss Valley State hasn't lost a game since this thread started.

Re: How many B12 wins do we get?
Also, the coaches poll predicted we would finish 7th. Proved a lot of people wrong this year, even ourselves. In my bet with friends at the beginning of the year, I had us winning 10 conference games exactly because I figured this team would play to the level of the competition.

I think ISU will beat Baylor at home, but get swept by OU.
Truly should be able to sweep Tech, but somehow it doesn't look likely. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueywqUBW3oM]YOU GOT FAIL HORN'D! - YouTube[/ame]

Re: How many B12 wins do we get?
Don't claim they proved everyone wrong. There were some of us on here begging for you "ledge jumpers" to take a step back, don't have such knee-jerk reactions, give them time, etc. And you know what we got for it? ridiculed and cussed at. And now when it ends up that we are having a really nice season you want to lump us in with the doubters? No Thanks.

Re: How many B12 wins do we get?
I didn't post in this thread before, but I'll admit I was being just as negative.
Before the season, I bet a friend $5 ISU would make the tournament this year.
Before Big 12 play started, I preemptively conceded and paid him his $5, on the condition that he'd still pay me $10 if by a miracle we made it. Now, we're pretty damn close.
It thought me a lesson about pessimism. It's OK to objectively predict whatever you think will happen, but keep it free of the emotions and sorrow.

ISU may be able to out-talent a team like Baylor if the shots are falling.
I thought I was playing it relatively tame with 10-8 or 9-9 projection I made in preseason. You are pretty accurate bro
