There was several times yesterday that I thought Royce drove and the ball just bounced off a defender and into an ISU players hands only to see on the replay that the pass came straight from Royce. It's incredible that he can fit the ball into such a tight space when passing. I also thought that Gettys comment about Royce having different velocities to his passes was spot on. White is just an incredible gift.
It looks like EVERYONE is figuring out their role an playing together much more smoothly. Chris Allen is being more patient and not forcing things, Babb is taking good shots and making them now, Ejim and Gibson are being active around the basket, making their lay-ups and rebounding, Mcgee is drving when the defense over plays and will probably get more looks from 3 in the future. Booker is rebounding, playing much better defense and knocking down open shots. There is finally some flow to the offense and we are getting easy shots inside and out. On top of that, they are finally playing good team defense. I thought they defended pretty well against Texas, but couldn't get rebounds.
It is impressive how much better they have looked the last 2 games than ANY game this year. Hopefully they don't take a step back and continue to get better.
I completely agree, and don't forget Scottie- he seems to have a knack for realizing when the team needs picked up, and has made several key buckets just when they needed them.
I don't know if people realize it but part of the Royce magic has been an adjustment by Fred. With Bubu injured and Allen not being very effective at the point, Fred has Royce handling the ball and bringing up court on almost every play. Could have backfired, instead Royce looks like superman. I'm glad it worked out though so not complaining; just pointing out something people might have over-looked. I think Fred definitely deserves some credit for the Royce Magic we've seen the last couple games.
Amazing a big man can handle the ball that well. The last player I recall being so complete was Tinsley, but of course he could't jam it like Royce. Would love to see him bounce a pass between a guards legs like Tinsley was known to to a time or two.
