Re: ISU at Texas on LHN
If LHN does not televise this game, NO ONE televises it.
Third tier distribution systems certainly do not have to share ANYTHING they do, and there's no reason for LHN to share its feed with ESPN FC or ESPN3 because it reduces just about any reason for anyone IN TEXAS, as well as elsewhere, to try and get the Longhorn Network.
Something like 10 conference games were never picked up and fell through to the third tier.

People understand the technicalities and they don't care because the bottom line is nobody can see this game and we will be able to see Baylor games. You said it was like Baylor even though it's clearly not for all practical purposes.
I'm pretty sure our game at Baylor will be available nationally through at least one and probably two legal video sources.
It's a unique thing and it's due to ESPNLHN. Why are people jumping through hoops trying to act like this Big 12 basketball telecast is not out of the ordinary when it clearly is?

The game was not selected to be shown nationally or by the Big 12 Television Network as one of its games of the week, so the telecast was made available to both school’s third-tier providers. Because of the significant production costs to send a truck to Austin and produce the game, Iowa State has chosen not to televise the game.
Some viewers have concluded that Texas’ third-tier partner (the Longhorn Network) is blocking the telecast. It is not. If we had made the choice to pay the high costs for producing the game, it likely would have been shown on local TV in our market.
Does ISU have its own truck or does Learfield make the arrangements for trucks? Learfield produces for schools in Oklahoma and Texas. Don't they have trucks semi-local? Curious how this actually works. I read somewhere the uplink cost is about 1-5k/hr depending on BW so what are the other production costs? I know people would complain, but couldn't they use the radio feed for audio with the video? or like the btn, do the play by play remotely. Might as well look the part if we can't afford to produce road games.
I would guess the LHN is done with fibre so it would not even be an option to make it available outside of their normal distribution (like mediacomm)
not really expecting an answer to any of these questions here. :)

There are only three schools that don't have at least two conference games that fall through to the third tier (KU, Mizzou and A&M) and Mizzou still has one falling through.
But no, the fact that Texas is trying to force through their agenda by holding out on Oklahoma State and Iowa State telecasts sounds much more believable.

I'm pretty sure the only school that doesn't have at least two games fall through to the third tier during conference season is Kansas. So any Baylor fan with DirecTV can pay for the game and any Baylor fan with a computer can probably watch for free. Also any of them with access to a decent sports bar can watch it.
That's the bottom line, that's all anybody cares about.
It's misleading to say that the reason this is not the case for the UT/ISU game is anything but the LHN. We're not sending a crew from ISU down to Baylor either.

I grew up an Iowa fan, then switched to ISU when I went to school there. I started watching one or the other religiously around 1982 pretty much steady for three decades. This is a first for me. I switched to ISU in '97 so maybe from '82-'97 ISU didn't have TV for all conference games on TV but I never got that impression. It's a first for me in 30 years. More like an 11th or 12th in 16 years.

2012 - at Texas whoa, how do you even pull that up?
I do remember being ticked about @Nebraska and listening on the radio, wasn't that the game Rancik won on a buzzer beater or was that the next year?
I guess some of them I didn't miss much because they weren't high profile games.
As far as having zero national TV access (unless you count this Verizon thing) it still looks like you're telling us this is the first time since '04 and only the 4th time in 16 years. When you say "not in Iowa" do you mean local tv or that they weren't even on directv or web?
