Re: Student section challenge
If you've ever been to a Canadian sporting event and heard them sing Oh Canada, you'll probably agree with the OP.

What I'd like to see and hear from the students is the loudest singing of the national anthem in the nation. Be respectful, be proud of who we are (U.S. citizens AND Cyclones) and show everyone that upfront. You'll impress the elders in attendance, your peers, the opposing team and fans, President Leath and any broadcast audience. If you don't know the national anthem, learn it. It's no harder to sing for you than it is for anyone else.
Show respect with this song at the beginning, and then show the world who ISU is the rest of the night.
Carry on. No it is very rude and arrogant to "yell" the national anthem. I guarantee that eyes would roll if that happened.
“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads -
Re: Student section challenge
I only find one thing wrong with the OP - he singles out the students. I find way too many old fogeys like me that fail to even give the most basic respect during the anthem - men removing their cover. I tend to become a hat Nazi right before the anthem and remind those around me to remove their hat. Some look genuinely embarrassed (we all forget from time to time) but others looked ****** that I am stepping on their rights. Those rights were bought with blood. Some of the other posters on this forum are risking their lives right now so the very least we can do is show respect for them by respecting the flag. We should all be singing the anthem. It's not the prettiest song in the world, but it stands for a lot. It doesn't matter if you can't sing, sing it loud - then have no voice left by the end of the game.

Yupp because singing the National Anthem loud will really play a major role in beating Mizzou and will bring Hilton Magic Back.

I've never understood why wearing a hat is considered disrespectful. It makes absolutely no sense.
I tend to abide by it because I don't feel strongly enough about hat wearing to make a scene, but I just don't get it.
It's like 1000 years ago, some tyrannical ruler had an irrational hatred of head gear, and it just caught on. Today, we continue to act on it out of habit.

Maybe it is irrational, but I'm sure it means something to that WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf, Iraq or Afghanistan vet sitting in your section. Do it for him/her.
