I too am looking forward to seeing this team grow through the balance of the year; and right now I believe they will grow and improve. I agree they are just learning how to play together in the Big XII, and I see a commitment and desire to do well that I hadn't seen earlier in the year. I also think the depth we have can help us at the end of the year. That depth is something we have not had for a loooong time.
I do believe this team has the tendency to play to the level of competition, and that worries me a bit. It is going to lead to some disappointments.
Joe DeRosa is just a bad ref. He was kicked out of the NBA, yet the Big XII allows themselves to think he can be a good college referee. I don't get it.
That said, no team is going to get the calls at Allen Fieldhouse. They have "earned" that. It is, in fact, part of what we had with Hilton Magic. The fans and our team(s) will have to "earn" that magic back also. Hilton magic slipped away slowly at first and then rushed out the door. It will (and is) coming back slowly now. It's hard to be patient after all this time, but with the foundation that is there it can be done.
Just getting back from the game...late night to say the least. Going to the game doesn't make me an expert on it, but here were my thoughts...
- Jeff Withey gave us more problems than I thought he would. Granted, he was getting away with murder in the paint, but he was a factor that gave us a lot of trouble.
- The calls definitely favored Kansas in the 2nd half. It was pretty obvious, even some of the Kansas fans I was sitting next to couldn't believe some of the stuff they got away with. Taylor had a monster traveling that he got away with that ended with a 3-point play, and then of course the numerous hacks and slaps for steals that went uncalled, nothing left to do at that point but laugh.
-Railey is awful...at least today he was. Yet, he got plenty of playing time. Only questionable coaching decision I have for Hoiberg, I thought Gibson would have been a much better option or go ahead and let Booker play with 4 fouls.
-Allen has to figure out when shooting is acceptable and unacceptable. It's not always acceptable.
Overall, I was good with how we played. You just knew that eventually KU would go on that big run, even though my head really wanted to believe that it wouldn't happen after we broke their momentum multiple times throughout the game. KU certainly got some help from the refs, but you knew that was going to happen too, no matter how frustrated that makes us. I'm calling us an 11-7 team in conference play.
The officiating today was as bad as I have seen it down there. It is always bad, but it gets to the point where you just don't get a fair shake when playing in that dump. And in my opinion it really is hurting the game. There were twice as many fouls against us, I am not even sure we got into the bonus the second half.
I get it, KU gets the calls at home, but today we crossed the line where it compromises the integrity of the game.

Go State!
I dont think Gibson is 100% or he would have played more. Gibson also makes Ejim better. Railey puts up a good fight and is physical but just doesnt have the size for this level.
The gap in our economy is between what we have and what we think we ought to have--and that is a moral problem, not an economic one. - Paul Heyne
Chris Allen is horrible. I thought it would get better after he got to 1K points, but alas, no such luck...
...and...
...dear Royce White: Part of being a great player is making your &^# (*@& free throws. At least try. You're not even picking your heels up off the hardwood.
Seriously, if the guy is THIS bad at shooting free throws, I know exactly how to guard him: hack the crap out of him. He won't make the FTs anyway.

One would think we just lost to Campbell or Drake after reading this thread. For starters.....regardless of shot selection.......without Chris Allen's "been there, done that" experience in that type of enviroment, we would not have been in position to even think about winning. As for Royce.....in his 17th career game......he just outplayed their superstud. And yes, the officiating left much to be desired...but to think we were going to get any different down there you were setting yourself up. And for those who thought it was the worst.....get a tape of the '04 game in Lawrence. Regardless, it didn't cost us the game. They got hot....we went cold.
Right now CFH has put together a bunch of misfits that will more than likely finish in the upper half of the conference and be playing postseason. Not too bad considering where we were two years ago looking down the barrel of our 4th straight losing season all the while being told to be patient.....have trust.....and that ISU never was really a basketball school anyway.
Kind of like the other 170 times you've lost to Kansas. I swear you clowns bellyache about the officiating more than any other fan base.
Serious question: when was the last time your team got shortchanged by the refs? And not in a marginal way, but a big way, like we got ****ed today? Think about that and get back to us....I guess we may never hear from you again. While you're at it, think about how you would feel if your favorite team got screwed constantly against some of the name teams, and imagine how you would feel? I think then you might understand how we feel about it.
Everyone needs to quit ********. You all sound like Nancy Grace. We lost, the officiating sucked, we sucked at times, we also should have won in my opinion. Ragging on each and every player about every play that they executed poorly makes you sound like Jon Miller so shut up and move on to the next game already.

This guy is beating his pud to talking mess on an opponents board. Paul, I think I found a picture of you. I always knew Kansas fans like you were worthless pieces of **** but after seeing this i will never question that fact.
This statement might be true. We do love booing the refs!
I was at the game yesterday and I have to say that the sqwak fans love to boo. They do it just as much or more than any other team's fans that I've seen yet they seem to think it is terrible when other team's fans do it. It really bothers how KU's fans seem to think that their **** doesn't stink.

Hey Baylor.....prepare you anus.
Worst officiating as you have seen down there? You must not have seen the game where they gave KU a dead ball 3 pointer and gave KU a 3 pointer that was really two because his foot was on the line. The game went to overtime, but shouldn't have.
