Why do people buy tickets and spend the entire time emailing/tweeting? That is far worse. At least those that leave early do participate during the game.

Re: People leaving with 2 min left to beat traffic...
Right or wrong, I get worked up over people leaving early because it reflects poorly on our fanbase.
However, I can take solace in the fact that they are only hurting themselves by missing great finishes; Okie State games in FB and BB this year are classic examples.
I know I am extremely embarrassed when I have a legitimate reason and have only the choice of leaving early or not going to the game at all. I'll go to the game and take the humiliation. If someone makes fun of me, well that is the price I pay for leaving early. Yes, I have the right to do what I want with my ticket and yes, they have every right to jeer me for leaving early.
By the way, I do occasionally grumble when I see others leaving early from a game clearly in doubt, but I will never grumble at someone who has kids or the elderly in their group.

I would rather have fans in the seats for all but 3 minutes of the game than have those seats be empty for the entire game.

Re: People leaving with 2 min left to beat traffic...
The lady sitting in 205 got up with a minute left in the game and said in a very disgusted voice 'we should have beaten this team.'
I hope the atmosphere of hearing it on the radio (if she made to her car by then) was just as exciting as it was for those of us that stayed.
Yeah, not only should we have beat OSU, lady, we did. That's why the game is 40 minutes.
And I am guessing Hoiberg and the team don't care about fans leaving early /sarcasm

I get upset over people getting worked up over people getting mad about people leaving the game early. I mean the nerve of some people. It's their right to get angry about people getting mad about people leaving early.
This thread is hilarious. I think we need a 10 commandments of being a Cyclone fan.

Re: People leaving with 2 min left to beat traffic...
this has been happening forever at ISU games, and pretty much everywhere else to varying degrees. I remember growing up in Hilton in the mid 80's when johnny was there and even then the concorse would fill up at the end no matter how close the game was at the end. Its frustrating but there will always be those fans which it is more important to wait in the parking lot first than know how the game finished until the radio is turned on.
Two favorite teams, the Cyclones, and whoever is playing the Hawkeyes! -
Re: People leaving with 2 min left to beat traffic...
Some of this is a leftover of "Hilton Magic" (remember that?) where the crowd seemingly
willed the team to victory.
Now people leave during a close game. It's a new era.

Re: People leaving with 2 min left to beat traffic...
I do think you might change some of the behavior by changing up things a bit. Always seemed like when the band's played Fights at the under 4 minute timeout, thats some sort of psychological cue for a lot of people to head on out.
(and that said, we could probably do with a bit less of the fight song during basketball games... theyre overdoing it a bit this year it seems like)

Smile cam, muscle cam, and 'drunk guy yells we love the cyclones before playing one of about 4 old songs'. They pay the bills i guess.

People have a hard time accepting that we don't play in Phog Allen or Rupp Arena. Hilton is great, but no reason to try and hold it to the same standard as those schools. It could be a lot worse too, just look at Carver Hawkeye nowadays.

Re: People leaving with 2 min left to beat traffic...
It will stop. I guarantee after the Iowa football game and OSU game less people leave games early. Basketball is the same.
