I get so tired of people comparing Hilton to the Phog.

KU has won the last 7 Big 12 championships, whereas ISU has the longest postseason draught of ANY school in a power 6 conference.

If that isn't "apples and oranges", I don't know what is.

It certainly is apples to oranges but a lot of posters compare from the standpoint of "we have as good of a gameday atmosphere as anyone". If people are going to post that, we certainly should have a reality check like the OP once in awhile.

I look at it a little bit from a "the chicken or the egg" standpoint. If we as a collective crowd -- or even multiple individuals in the crowd -- decide to do our part to change things, how much positive effect can that have on the team's success? Crowd energy certainly can affect team energy - both positively and negatively.

Iowa State finished 4th in the Big 12 in attendance last year.

    Only teams that finished higher:
    Kansas (35-3)
    Texas (28-8)
    Kansas State (23-11)

    Yep, you're a ******.
My wording choice was poor, I am not openly rooting for a kid to get run over and ISU to get sued. But it's only a matter of time before it happens with that clown running full speed around the concourse at a time when a lot of people are exiting. All it takes is a little kid to run down the stairs at the wrong time and then you've got a bad situation on your hands. If I were running the building I wouldn't want that type of liability.

The thing is, it adds nothing to the atmosphere. Other than the handful of 1st row people that give the guy a high five, no one pays any attention to him running around. He gets to the end and waves the flag and no one cheers, it doesn't get the crowd going.

Yes, watching someone doing something stupid and hurting themselves is funny, and for that I am an *******. But, I've already got a ticket to hell anyway, I might as well fly first class.

To be fair, Kansas students have all fall to prepare for basketball season. ISU students support their football team as well.

That is a good point. BB is definitely king at KU.

It reminded a little bit of the old "Hilton Magic" in the Johnny Orr days (when I as a student).

I'd really like to see Hilton become just as tough of a place to play for opponents as Allen Fieldhouse is now. I see signs of improvement, but we have a long ways to go.

p.s. the fans at Allen boo just as much as they do at Hilton.

So the crowd responded to performance on the court. I'm shocked.

It was the magnitude of their response that stood out and it was from everyone there (minus the 20 ISU fans in attendance) from the bluehairs to the students. This is lacking at Hilton.

This.. For real we can stop the discussion about the crowd and everything. This explains it all.

    Re: Kansas crowd

As someone stated earlier, it isn't "cool" anymore to go to a basketball game, let alone go crazy at one. The basketball games just aren't popular on campus. They will be once we start winning again.

There is a culture in Kansas that KU basketball is the ticket. They couldn't care less about the football team. KU basketball fans are every bit as annoying and arrogant as Iowa football fans, if not more.
I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others.
