No TV or Internet Broadcast for Texas game

Our game would be a pretty crappy game to use to pressure providers. You will never see LHN carriage in iowa (the satellites arent going to pick it up), and probably not outside of texas. If they wanted to pressure providers games vs TAMU, Tech, and Baylor wouldve been the ones to go with, since their first priority should be getting coverage in their own state.

I have to ask though, for those that say 'dont blame the LHN'... they could have allowed a local provider like mediacom to simulcast the LHN broadcast on MC22. It didnt have to be an all or nothing 'ISU sends a truck or gets no TV'... also, if it werent for the LHN's issues getting carriage, they probably would have the game up on ESPN3 like most other games that are on espn properties.

That's a lot of "probablys" and "could haves". Bottom line is that we could have had this game on TV if ISU thought it was a worthwhile investment. If this team continues to improve and gain more national recognition I'm guessing that balance will fall more in the favor of sending a crew in these situations for the future.

Outside of Saturday, the Big 12 Network only does 1 game a week, and this week they chose Baylor at OU. Now why it did not get picked up by any of the ESPN networks may be because of the LHN politics, but you don't know that. It is quite obvious what ESPN is doing with the LHN in locking this thing down to force subscriptions. I still don't get their business model at all...its like they are trying to do the same thing the Big 10 Network did, and for some reason they think it will work.

If they could get Big 12 football on there consistently it has a chance. They are reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally overestimating the interest in college basketball by anybody in the state of Texas.

In terms of basketball leverage, the only passion is only going to be from ISU, KSU and WVU, not from UT. They wouldn't dare have a KU Big 12 game go televised only on a Verizon tv service nobody has.

Texas fans, UT and all other Texas schools, don't give a flying crap about hoops even when their teams are great.

How many ISU/Texas games haven't been broadcast in the past? I can't remember any, but I may be wrong. If this truly is the first then how can people conclude this is not due to the LHN?

As to Colorado, I believe the home team has control if it falls to third tier, and I seem to recall that they denied us the ability to broadcast the games.

It speaks to how huge college football is that a deluxe cable network was formed basically for 8 or maybe 12 hours of content A YEAR. It really probably is the second biggest sports entity in America in some ways, baseball has a bazillion games but nothing that comes close to that level of interest.

The only thing this 24/7 all year network had to leverage in '11 was:
4hours: Rice @ Texas
4hours: KU @ Texas

Not only does the Big Ten Network have 12 teams, at least 9 of them are passionate about hoops. LHN doesn't even have a passionate hoops fan base.

The fact that it has limited access has to do with The Longhorn Network. The fact that it takes Iowa State to travel to Texas to broadcast the game has to do with the Longhorn Network. Yeah, I would think the ESPN people would want to make an extra buck through clonezone. Are they not on the hook for zillions to Texas and the LHN?
