Ejim's hands

I really like Melvin Ejim, but he seems to be the anti- Victor Alexander. Big V had the softest hands imaginable that appeared to be covered with fly paper. He caught just about anything that he could get a finger on.

I have been thinking the last few games that Melvin needs to catch about 10,000 passes a week from all different angles with each and both hands during the off season. His inability to handle simple passes and not lose the ball on the way to his shot really hampers his decent looking game.* This and a little consistent outside shot could really help him to blossom.

Anybody have any ideas what might help him with this?



*It would also look better if he would quit doing that "who me" thing with his arms every single time a call doesn't go his way.

I think its just something you have. NFL recievers still struggle catching and that's their job.

He's cost Royce about 2 assists per game by either bobbling the ball or missing the layup.

Noticed this myself. It was funny during the game on Saturday I was going off on Melvin for not handling a pass and turning it over. I was telling my buddy that I didn't think Melvin was working out and we need to find a better SF/PF for next year. Then he went on roll and scored like 8 out of our next 10 points. I quickly corrected myself and just said he is inconsistant.

He played the way he needs to play last Saturday (taking the ball to the basket and not settling for 3's), so I'm not sure we should give him too much more to worry about.

I wonder if his eyes have been checked, many college students start wearing classes... just a thought. He does mishandle a lot of balls

He wears glasses in class. I know he doesn't wear contacts because he puts his glasses on when he gets to class and takes them off before he leaves. You could be onto something here.

correct...though when he's been hanging out he usually wears glasses then too.

Solution: Get him a pair of Horace Grant style goggles.

Could be due to a lack of focus on catching it.
If he starts to think about what he's going to do after he gets it before he does, he could just mishandle it. Happens all the time in the NFL, especially with RBs

Talking about hands, Royce tosses the basketball around like a baseball.

I was thinking of Royce for the same and opposite things. He has hands like glue just like Big Vic but have also wondered if his problems from the FT line might be vision related. A lot of his FTs are way, way short ... like a problem with depth perception.

My father-in-law usually doesn't say much about individual plays in a game but he was oohing and aahing over the play where Royce caught the pass across the top of the key with is left hand and instantly sent it right back diagonally across the lane to the open player. It was right on the money and pretty damned impressive.

There a few few things I count on every game.

Melvin will cost Royce an assist due to his hands or not dunking it.
Allen will take an ill advised shot.
Railey will set an illegal screen up top, if he gets in.

Anybody else have any that they are sure will happen?
