4. Iowa State: The Cyclones still have some work to do before they can feel good about their chances of an NCAA tournament berth, but Saturday’s 72-64 victory over Kansas certainly enhances their resume. Iowa State had lost 14 straight to the Jayhawks before Saturday and hadn’t defeated Kansas in Ames since 2004.
Hard to argue with that. Like many have said, I think 10 conference wins is the magic number for us.
Re: updated ESPN Big XII Power Rankings
A win tomorrow would be another nice addition to the "resume".
Re: updated ESPN Big XII Power Rankings
The K-State game tomorrow night is huge. That win not only validates that Saturday's victory wasn't a "fluke", but puts us in the driver's seat to finish 4th in the conference. No chance we get left out if we finish in 4th place.

Agreed. A loss there could also be another nail into KSU this season. If the Wildcats drop another game or two, they could really start to tumble. I have a hard time seeing a Frank Martin team do that down the stretch of a season, but it would be a major benefit for us.

We need 14,092 in the stands again tomorrow night!

Yes, it is, though I'm not ruling out 3rd or 2nd if the team continues to improve. As has been said, every game is big when you continue to win and are playing for something.

4th team out of 10 in a league ranked #2 nationally by every sos/computer rating is a stone cold lock no matter what Gottlieb thinks. 5th team will be on the bubble, sixth team depends on a lot of circumstance.
Having a legit budding star on the national scene does not hurt us either.

I'm now really worried about this game. K-State is too disciplined/afraid of their coach to drop two in a row without a big fight.
Re: updated ESPN Big XII Power Rankings
We need to distance ourselves from K State and Texas. KU, Mizzou and Baylor are in. A Mizzou win tonight over Texas puts them at 3-6 in the conference and a win by us over K State puts them at 4-5 and us at 6-3 with a 2 game lead over K State and a 3 game lead over Texas.
OU is intriguing but I think they will slip up a few times to teams they shouldn't. As dirty as it may make you feel, root for Mizzou tonight in Austin.

But what if we root for Texas and then Kansas on Saturday? If Mizzou goes winless this week and we take care of business, we leap them in the standings.

Let's just win the rest of our games and let the chips fall where they may.
Re: updated ESPN Big XII Power Rankings
We should always root for the top three teams because they are basically locks for the tournament.

I disagree. I wasn't rooting for the top team in the conference Saturday and you shouldn't have been either.

Once the season is late enough that we can't realistically catch a team in front of us I agree. I'm not convinced the wheels won't fall off for Missouri with their lack of depth. It's a loooooooong shot, but we still control our own destiny to finish in front of Baylor.
I don't think first place is realistic in any way, but if we were to somehow slide into 2nd or 3rd the seeding improvement would be significant.
Not getting ahead of myself, we still need a few nice wins to even stay 4th or 5th place.
